First is download line attenuation, 2nd in download SNR (signal to noise ratio)

For 2Mbs you need a line attenuation of 43dB or lower, so for now 1Mb is all you can get.

2mb possible ????

your Sad

However romour has it the line limits may be relaxed again soon so 2Mbs may be possible in the future, especially as you have a very good SNR figure.

Wait and see what April brings.

Some routers and USB modems will tell you your current line stats as has been posted above) but not all will. So check you router / modem to see if it shows anything

You can find out your line attenuation out by asking PlusNet to do a whoosh test but many people have been asking for this recently and slowing down the resolution of fault investigations they do - each whoosh test takes 15 mins - so I would recommend you don't ask for this at this time. unless you do have a problem.

Come April when you're changed to MaxDSL you will be able to find what speed your line is capable of anyway so I suggest you just wait until that time.

The F5D7630 does show line stats but the page is undocumented.
Try http://192.168.2.1/ADSL_status_main.stm

Btw Peter in April do we get an e-maill telling us that our line speed has been upgraded, or do we have to contact PN about upgrade?

2mb possible ????

LOL - another reboot of the router of mine and its dropped again.

Started at attenuation of 57dB

Rebooted a couple of days ago and it dropped to 56dB

Rebooted again today and its now 55dB

My SNR has risen steadily too - now at 26.5dB

I reckon there is a ferret running up and down the conduet housing the cables and giving them a good polish!

As the houses round here are only 5 years old at most, all the lines from here to the local green box are fairly new - I reckon that has to be helping me gain a SNR of 26.5

Reading a post by someone who has 2mb with attenuation of 56db and SNR of 16dB, Im starting to cross my fingers that the SNR I have will help me get it too!

I think many people will start to see their attenuation get better as the weather dries out - damp and electrical circuits dont mix well.

Good Job BT are starting MaxDSL in April - hopefully the weather will be a bit warmer and drier than it is now...
