2mb MTU settings

After may hour messing about, I've settled on:
router MTU 1472
router MRU 1472

(DR TCP Xp pro)
Tcp receive window 50120
MTU 1472.

I've a feeling you'll get many differing answers, but these are good for me.
I have a play every now and again but according to,

http://www.broadbandreports.com/tweaks

these settings are best for me.

I hope this helps some, Simon

p.s my old router (belkin POS) messed up the receive window numbers but my new dlink gives identical numbers (according to the tweeks test)

(I think these two are pre-tweak)

What should I be expecting as a good speed?

15-11-2005 15:22:45 1960
15-11-2005 15:22:25 1936.4
15-11-2005 15:22:07 1728.7 (thunderbird did this I think)

12-11-2005 23:51:27 1961.9
12-11-2005 23:51:07 1961.9
11-11-2005 06:20:18 1920.9
10-11-2005 23:55:41 1908.5

I've had a few ~2050, I think these were ott.

This is about average for www.adslguide.org speedtest;

True Speed (estimated)
Downstream 1916 Kbps (239.5 KB/sec)2069 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 245 Kbps (30.6 KB/sec) 264 Kbps (inc. overheads)

again, I've seen ~1925 Kbps on accation.

I don't realy know how good/bad these are compared to others at plusnet.

If only I could find a way to lose the ping spikes(100-300 ish) and laggy XBLive, I'd be realy happy!

The "free  " modem +net sent us was faster, ~1950 d/l at adslguide, the same upload speed thou.

Does anybody know what all the other settings in 'Dr TCP' do? They are all set to defalt or blank at the moment.

Hi there,

Probably one of the most comprehensive tweaking guides I have ever seen can be found here courtesy of Kitz from the Usergroup.

Have a read at that. If you follow the recommendations you may just squeeze out a few more kbps. Smiley

I had MTU set at 1458 but suddenly found could not upload details to a web site using FTP with those settings. Linksys recommended 1492 on router and PC and that worked.
