2000 kps on a 8000 kbs line

Would someone point me in the righ diection....

I have been on an "up to 8 Mb" connection for the past couple of months however my download speed never rises above 2500 kps. My router is reporting 8128 kbps connection speed
I have performed regualr speed tests through the bt speedtester and it reports the following:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1955 kbps

According to the plus.net connection settings page my broadband speed is 2000 kps.

Speed test shows the following using the Dublin server.

I live about 300 yards from the BT exchange.

Surely i should be getting better speeds than this.

Hi,

Looks like the sped report from BT hasn't filtered through to our side for some reason. I've manually adjusted the speed on our side for you, if you can disconnect/reconnect or reboot your router for the change to take effect you should then see a speed increase.

I suppose the first question is what product are you on and what is your peak time usage.
