2 mb speed and connection?

my connection has just been upgraded from 512 to 2mb. it doesn't seem any quicker to me though. Am I missing something, should I be changing any settings?

Did a couple of speed tests in a few mins:

30-09-2004 18:47:10 1687.4
30-09-2004 18:46:51 1463
30-09-2004 18:46:30 1846.9
30-09-2004 18:45:48 1272.9

Also, I now keep losing the connection. The little icon in the right corner of the screen keeps going to "ADSL connecting" and when I try to connect I get the message "the modem has reported an error". Any ideas?Huh

2 mb speed and connection?

Those speed tests susggest you are connecteed at 2Mb.

What MTU & RWIN values have you set in windows? See the MTU tweak for info on this and for alternatves to try. Tweaking your MTU can improve your speeds - also when setting the vaues with DrTCP, set the RAS MTU as well as some ADSL modems use this figure.

2 mb speed and connection?

it was 1458 but just changed it to 1478 and 63272 ..... not really noticed any difference though.

got these tweak test results:

. Your Tweakable Settings:
Receive Window (RWIN): 63272
Window Scaling: off
Path MTU Discovery: ON
RFC1323 Window Scaling: OFF
RFC1323 Time Stamping: OFF
Selective Acks: ON
MSS requested: 1438
TTL: unknown
TTL remaining: 115

2. Test 146000 byte download
Actual data bytes sent: 146000
Actual data packets: 102
Max packet sent (MTU): 1478
Max packet recd (MTU): 1478
Retransmitted data packets: 0
sacks you sent: 0
pushed data pkts: 5
data transmit time: 0.868 secs
our max idletime: 135.0 ms
transfer rate: 92506 bytes/sec
transfer rate: 740 kbits/sec
This is not a speed test!
transfer efficiency: 100%

advice as follows:

Notes and recommendations:
Change MTU to 1500 (FAQ #652, #695)
Choose RWIN between 20132 and 50330 (FAQ #586)
download/use DRTCP .. (FAQ #57Cool

2 mb speed and connection?

I know this could be a bit simple but have you checked you have microfilters in all your sockets that you use. Yesterday my 2mbps (which i only just got) was only about 512 speed, then realised this morn that id left a phone socket without a filter and tried it after putting one in and bam up to 2mbps. just an idea

used an old lead to go straight into phone socket

MTU tweaks

Nothing seems to work! Still seems slow and random loss of connection ...... sometimes only connected for 10 seconds and never longer than 4 or 5 mins.
