1st spam with Plusnet

I had my 1st Spam email today with my Plusnet account

to which I have had since 18/06/02.

It was all in capital letters, and was from Nigeria.

I was so annoyed that I didn't bother to read the

scam.

Do I need to change my email address, or will they

access me again.

I have been very careful with my present address. And

I use another one when downloding software etc.

Read an article in the local newspaper about these Nigeria scams. One company was recieving 8 a day from these scammers alone, so I think you'll be getting some more.

You could try Mailwasher to bounce the mails back but I guess that there from false addresses anyway.

Just a thought, you've not used your mail address in a webpage have you, as they use programs to crawl the web and leach these out.

Also if you have html activated on your mail reader then the graphic links tabs will report back to the server that your email is active. So even looking at it in the preview pane will target your email address as active so you my well get more now.

RE: 1st spam with Plusnet

Was it the famous 419 scam mails if you dont reply they will not bother but if search under 419 scams the american justice departments are very iterested also send an abuse mail to the ISP that sent it

Do not reply as these scams have resulted in loss of large sums of money and in a few case LIFE !!!!

Even if they havent picked up your email address from somewhere, a lot of the time they just guess possible email addresses using common first names and nicks.

This is usually only common among big email providers like hotmail..but you never know.
