I would be quite happy with a 1MB connection....

512K is pretty kick ass for the mo though!

I would pay extra for a 1Mb connection (although not what business 1Mb costs!!), I think that Plusnet would be happy to provide it too, and I believe that they have the available bandwidth, the problem appears to be with BT

Does anyone at Plus Net have any idea whether BT Retail are planning on offering a 1mb home product? It would be nice, but not at silly money. Given my location, I doubt I could have it though! Cry

I'm not from Plusnet, but I do recall reading an interview with the BT CEO not long ago, in which he said that their priority at the moment is to increase uptake of the current Home product, and that they currently hadn't seen the demand to justify a faster product.

I'd sign-up for a 1mb connection.
but not @ £99 a month. it's over charged!.
i'm paying £23.99 a month at moment for 500,
and it's not completely reliable.
When BT can make sure ADSL won't keep messing up,
maybe i will change my mind.

RE: 1Mb Connection (Home users Post if you want 1mb)

Plusnet have no say in the matter; if BT don't/won't offer a 1MB service then Plusnet can't supply it.
Also, currently 66% of the UK are allegedly served by ADSL-enabled exchanges, but take-up by consumers is still slow. BT are unlikely to offer a "1Mb Home ADSL" service when the existing 512Kb service isn't exactly selling like hot cakes. It therefore follows that 33% of the population still can't receive an ADSL service, so it's perhaps slightly unfair for existing users to demand a faster service.

Anyway, you've only been active for a couple of weeks Chris - you maxxed out the 512kbps already? :-)

Me too...I would quite happily sign up for a 1meg connection at a reasonable price, but ONLY if it's reliable and pretty constant on d/l...which my 512 connection hasn't been recently

RE: 1Mb Connection (Home users Post if you want 1mb)

I would be interested. Guys I live with could really use an FTP service between work and home, but the 512 service is pushing that a little bit - a 1meg line however would make that option available.

I guess it's gonna be quite a while before we see this service though.

RE: 1Mb Connection (Home users Post if you want 1mb)

I want a faster connection for streaming media use, not really caring about P2P that much.

I use this for streaming media delivery and would like a 1mb connection for viewing streaming movies on www.cinemanow.com 700K would be VHS quality.

Also i use www.musicbrigade.com so it would be good. Why wait until others want to sign up?
if they don't want to sign-up thats their choice,
the amount of braodband users doesn't really matter, if BT or PlusNet are gona get more money.. it makes good business all around, i hate to think i'm never gona see a 1 mb connection just cause i have to wait on other ppl signing up for the 500 first, who might never sign up in the first place!.. lets be honest broadband is for users who demand more than just sily chat rooms, and the majority out there DO just sit on chat rooms all day.. they can do that with a 56 K modem. i'm NOT being cheeky just realistic, but most people use chat b/c they dunno how to do anything else. So if we have to wait on ppl getting educated on networking and stuff and realising ADSL is far better and there is 10000 other things to do with your computer other then sit on Yahoo! chat 24/7, we have a long wait then huh! .. ahh well. Sad

BTW: regarding my post, many ppl have told me, they don't use my site cause they dunno how to, or about anything technical. so i'm being honest!

RE: 1Mb Connection (Home users Post if you want 1mb)

Having used the Blueyonder Cable 1 Mb home service (which is 35 pounds per month), it's definately worth having if you do any sort of downloading with your connection. And I'm not a particularly heavy user - it just annoys me that I always seem to find 2 or 3 things to download at the same time, which when they all have to share 60 KB/sec gets incredibly slow and tedious. Double the speed makes a hell of a difference.

Maybe BT will realise this in a year or two.... nah, better make that ten.
