1MB Upgrade Perimeters, Help Needed!

I have just had a whoosh test confirmed by PlusNet.
These are the results_

Upstream ADSL Link Info
Loop Loss 23 dB
Cell Count 17678686
Downstream ADSL Link Info
Loop Loss 40 dB
Cell Count 115308236

Are these results good or bad or average.
My exchange has only been enable since 28th October.
If these results are good, I will obviously upgrade to Easytstart 1MB.
Regards.

Hereare some published figures.
Your woosh test result is slightly high downstream but is
within BT's limit of 45dB. Don't forget that 3dB = a doubling of
noise. Also BT appear to have been a bit cautious with their limits
and have built in high safety margins.
There is also an insertion loss test to pass at 41dB but if your
line passes the tests then it should work fine.

Does this mean that as I am near the limits of the requirements, it might be a good idea to stay with 512?
I do not want to place an order to find that the service is slow and unreliable.

It does appear to be close to the limit, but what I'm
saying is that BT's limit is a bit on the safe side and
have set this low limit to avoid problems.
From what I can tell from past comments from
people on 1Meg lines its only when you near the
60dB mark that big problems surface eg when their lines
have deteriorated to that extent.
Your current speed test results won't necessarily
reflect what you would get on 1Meg as BT might put
you on a different pipe.
It's a difficult one to call, have you spoken to anyone
from support about this?

My downstream attenuation is 40 dB, and I get 955 kbps on the ADSLguide speed test.

Not quite true.
3db extra loss is just that. It means that the signal is only half of what is was with 3db less loss.
If the signal is reduced then so is the noise (to some extent)
The noise is measured by the SNR (Signal To Noise) ratio which show the difference between the signal level and the noise level at the measuring point.

So what an extra 3db loss actually means is that the recieved signal level is nearer to the noise floor of the line. Not doubling of the noise.

I have ordered the 1MB easystart upgrade now as I passed the details over to the contact us section.
I will keep quiet about it and not let my other half know, or I will have to spend the same amount each months on shoes as well.

Hi here is the results of my whoosh test. It looks like i wont be getting 1meg.

Dear Customer
the results of a woosh test on your line are indicated below, these results are actually borderline for the 512K service and wholy not suitable for any faster speed. Please be aware that if we raise a regrade request and BT's tests confirm you are over the limits for 512K then the 512K service may be removed as a false green.
Kind Regards

A whoosh test can add upto 4db onto the figure, so you are talking beteen 56db to 60db from that result.

These figures would mean only 512 can be run on this line, as it is way above the threshhold of 44db.

Upstream and downstream are effectivly the send and receive directions from you to the exchange.
They have greatly different figures bacause each direction of transmission uses a different band of frequencies.
In normal transmission theory the higher the frequency transmitted down a cable the higher the loss. Hence the results you see.

1MB Upgrade Perimeters, Help Needed!

hmm ok who has the highest dB reading that has working 1mbit, I've been watching mine drop after the work carried out by BT over the last 3 weeks. Mine was 52-54 since I've had DSL, but then 3 weeks ago it dropped 50-52 now avging 48-50. So has anyone got a working 1mbit 50:1 near those figures?
