tar files CAN be unpacked on PAYH

The one thing that stopped me short of trying PAYH was the inability to unpack tar files - I couldn't face the pain of uploading thousands of files and more importantly checking that the upload had worked correctly.
Well xpcomputers has worked out how to do it - use cron

Re: tar files CAN be unpacked on PAYH

This does work and is far more satisfactory than the time heavy FTP file by file upload. Pretty much error free too. However, although all the files appear in the httpdocs folder I have a problem getting Joomla CMS to function. See my other threads.
I at least don't think there is a connection between my failing site install and the crontab tar.gz install, that seems to be faultless.

Re: tar files CAN be unpacked on PAYH

Just made a great discovery for Joomla fans. Instead of the favourite untar or the solution listed here for updating Joomla with the latest patch use this:- http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,6259/Itemid,35/
It's Brill and so simple to install and use. No longer do you have to upload the tar.gz file to the httpdocs folder then use the cron scheduler to un pack it. Just go into the control panel of Joomla and click the magic updater button. Woo Hoo soooooo simple. okay, it won't work for new installs but patch upgrades are a breeze.
