Re: why has my line speed been trashed down again?

How long is it on average between the drops you've been getting? I'd suggest if you can go twice as long as that with no drops it suggests the problem is internal and you should put things back to normal one step at a time to find out if what causes the problem.
If you are still getting drops that gives PN the evidence needed to refer the problem to BT.

Re: why has my line speed been trashed down again?

i don't think i've been getting drops this week, it's been me turning my router on and off
as i've got annoyed with things
there were problems last week with it for 2 days then the problem seemed to go away
but since then iu've been stuck in this cycle with profiles and bt and plusnet
so like today i'm connecting at 6meg but plusnet have me capped at  3.5meg grrr....

i'm not leaving it in there as i have a family and we need to have the phone working  Angry
so what now?
oh and i don't have a spare router lying around fraid i'm not employed so can't afford that sort of expense
can someone bump my profile upto at least the top of the band i'm in
is there anyway i can be bumped into the next band up?

You can still connect a phone at the test socket

Re: why has my line speed been trashed down again?

look this is the wrong way around making me the customer do all the checks first
i'm not having an extension lead running across my hall to power the phone and router
thats not safe
and as i keep saying i believe any drops in the last few days have been my bouncing the router in annoyance
and all of this doesn't explain why i'm still being profiled down at 3500...when connected at 6500
i am certain that something external to my house has been changed , maybe the dsl software?

If you've been disconnecting multiple times within 15 minutes you will have caused slower speeds yourself - and it could take BT up to 3 days to recognise that your line is now stable and raise the speed again.

yes so i've just read elsewhere :-(, ho hum
just wish the plusnet profile would follow the bt profile more closely not what seems to be a day behind
anyway i will try and keep my finger off the on/off button for a week

Re:why has my line speed been trashed down again?

I've taken a look over your account and the recent profile reports we received for your line.
It looks as though you had a sync at 5696 shortly after midnight on the 29th, your profile has updated to 5000 due to this. If you try a speedtest again you should be seeing speeds nearer to that now.

Can you plug the phone into the phone side of the filter and use it from there?

Re: why has my line speed been trashed down again?

don't understand?
if you mean can i have the phone at the master socket then no as i said it needs an extension cable for it and the router
and i'm not prepared to have that safety issue of a cable lying around for days on end
anyway i'll leave my router on/off switch for a week and we'll see what my profile/connection does
from whats being said it should get up into the next band at least in a week?

Re: why has my line speed been trashed down again?

If your connection is stable, yes.
If your internal wiring is causing these problem (such as a faulty faceplate on your master socket), then this will happen again Sad
