I think the problem might be that yahoo that bounced it back, not PN - I've had similar from NTL.

Your problem is with yahoo imposing a limit not PN.
I have sent and received files around 5Mb without any problem.

Re: what's the maxium size of attacments allowed over PN outgoing email servers

i think there more like 20mb+. there taken in raw format not jpeg which iam informed saves alot more information than if your cammera converts it straight to jpeg.
i thought it would be yahoo's limit. but looking where thereply came from i thought plusnet had impossed the limit.
will post back again tomoro when i find the actual size of the attacments they tried to send.

Re: what's the maxium size of attacments allowed over PN outgoing email servers

I think that Plusnet used to accept emails up to 100MB in size and I've never seen anything that suggests that has changed. Don't forget that when send an email it gets 7 bit encoded in to a single object and the size of that will be the limiting factor. The 7 bit encoding means that the size of the email will be 8/7 of the size of the original message and attachments (about 14%larger).
Have they tried sending one picture at a time as it is the total message size that matters not the individual attachments?
What type of tiff are they? Some tiff formats are compressed and some are not. Try zipping the pictures to see if the zip file is smaller than the original tiff - if so try sending that.

Could you upload them to your webspace and give your friend the link to download them from?

Re: what's the maxium size of attacments allowed over PN outgoing email servers

yeah i did think of doing that jameseh but to be honest i dont think its that improtant that the photos get to there uni friend right now.
and probaly just easier for them to chuck them on a usb stick and wait till the snows gone and they can get out of the snowny capped hills of the peak district and into derby.
if i have got time later i will have a go at few options and post back how it went.

I don't believe there's a limit on SMTP, but I believe it's about 6-8MB on Webmail.
