ticket #65495691 Connection slower after switch to 80/20 profile..

Hi,
So I joined plusnet 80/20 on 1st Feb and initial connection speed was in the region of 34/6. On investigation I learnt I was on the wrong ip profile (40/10) and support subsequently moved me up to 80/20 on 4th Feb.
Strangely my connection speed has dropped since to around 25/6 and BT Wholesale speedtest says my max achievable speed is 26.42/20..
I raised a ticket 3 days ago and was told to wait 72 hours and see if things improve which it hasn't.
Appreciate if you can investigate further..

The PN staff don't usually patrol the forum at weekends but shoul pick this up on monday for you otherwise it might be worth giving support a call if it can't wait till then
Might be worth posting your PN current line speed from https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed
and the BT IP profile as below and some one might be able to help you further.

Re: ticket #65495691 Connection slower after switch to 80/20 profile..

Hi there,
I've had a look at your connection and can see that you're currently on the 80/20 profile. The 40/10 profile was OK as for you line as it will not sync over those speeds.
There should be no difference in your sync rate as to whether you're on 40/10 or 80/20. I'd suggest a soft disconnect, by logging into your router and clicking disconnect and then power your router and modem off. Leave it turned off for a few minutes and then power your modem and wait for the DSL light to become stable, then power on your router and login then click connect.
See it there is any improvement.

Re: ticket #65495691 Connection slower after switch to 80/20 profile..

Hi Chris,
I took your advice and my max achievable speed 'improved' from 26.6 Mbps to 27.46 Mbps (see attached).
My actual download speed is likely a little more than shown in the attached as I'm not connected directly to the router at the moment (via homeplug instead) and my little one is watching mickey mouse of youtube  Smiley
So I'm probably syncing at pretty much the full max achievable speed available.
Having said all this, I'd like to understand a few things..
(1) Why can't I sync above 40/10 speeds? I'm assuming it's down to my distance to my FTTC cabinet, but it is only about 700 metres walk (likely half that as crow flies). Are you able to tell me what the actual length is?
(2) Given I was getting download speeds of 35 Mbps when on 40/10 profile, is it possible in my case that I would actually achieve faster speeds if I were on the lower profile rather than 80/20?
Thanks,
R

Re: ticket #65495691 Connection slower after switch to 80/20 profile..

I don't have the information on how far from your cabinet you are, it may not take the direct route to your premises too. It will also depend on the condition of the copper/aluminum to your premises.
It does seem that you are over your estimate at the moment which would lead me, a 700m distance would normally achieve a speed around 30Mb/s.
It shouldn't make a difference if you're on 80/20 or 40/10 but we can try it so see if it does make a difference. I place the order now and it will complete tomorrow.

Re: ticket #65495691 Connection slower after switch to 80/20 profile..

So dropping me down to 40/10 IP profile has improved my speeds as you can see from the attached. My dl speeds have gone up from 25 Mbps to 30 Mbps.
Thanks for your help.

Re: ticket #65495691 Connection slower after switch to 80/20 profile..

Strange, it is more likely the case that the DLM has reset when the profile change happened as there should be no difference in the sync speed.
Happy to see that it's back to what it was though.
