Re: speed faster with previous ISP

You are not on any "wrong profile". I'm not sure on what basis the number of error seconds has been deemed to be unacceptably high.
I suppose an alternative option would be to have interleaving set to always on, that might allow a higher sync speed, and reduce the number of CRC errors, although interleaving would also increase latency.

Re: speed faster with previous ISP

 DS             US
    Payload rate [Kbps]:                        8355          448
    Attenuation [dB]:                            47.5          27.3
    Margins [dB]:                                5.9            18.0

May I say that IMHO you are doing quite well with those figures Smiley I have the same attenuation on my ADSL2+ connection and can just about get similar speed but only with a 3 dB margin. Out of interest what average errors is DSLStats showing? I'm guessing from the telnet data CRCs are ~10 per minute.
No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

Re: speed faster with previous ISP

Hi ejs
How would 1 explain that on a LLU with old ISP no matter which router I was using I was always syncing at lowest no < 9000 kbps and highest upwards of 9500 kbps
With Plusnet
Using 5 different routers to test the sync rates with which includes
2 x TG582n,
1 x Netgear DGN2000,
1 x Huawei HG532
and
1 x D-Link DSL-2780
and they are all syncing way less than my previous ISP did on those routers
I have a few other routers here I can test with, however I am pretty sure the results would be the same.
Therefore there is either something wrong on the line, or I am on the wrong profile, because I was told by Plusnet via the dog n bone that I would get better speeds, however the opposite is quite transparent, to which I am starting to regret changing ISP's
Either way something is not right
Hi lucerne
Here are the current averages with the Netgear DGN2000 hooked up

Apologies for interjection but what does EH signify in firmware detail
10.2.2.B.EH
?

Re: speed faster with previous ISP

I am not sure tbh
My best guess is that it differentiates the FTTC firmware from the ADSL firmware (with and without USB port)
No doubt a seasoned member or Plusnet staff can bring us up to speed on this (no pun intended)
Firmware Update Tool
How to use the firmware update tool!
Plusnet - ADSL - TG582n (with USB port) - 8.4.4.J
Plusnet - ADSL - TG582n-PS (without USB port) - 8.4.4.J
Plusnet - ADSL - TG582n-PS (without USB port) - 10.2.2.B
Plusnet - FTTC - TG582n (with USB port) - 8.C.M.0
Plusnet - FTTC - TG582n (with USB port) - 10.2.5.2
Plusnet - FTTC - TG582n (with USB port) - 10.2.5.2.FO
Plusnet - TG589vn - 10.5.2.F

.EH = Plusnet - ADSL - TG582n-PS (without USB port) - 10.2.2.B  based on the links from that website.

Re: speed faster with previous ISP

I  trust you and all PN staff has had a great xmas, and wisshing you all a Happy new year
I have actual proof that my connection is clearly capable of the speeds above 10 Mbps though my line,
I was getting with my previous ISP on a LLU system, with problems on the line called speech clipping,
Can anyone explain what is going on here
and
17070 v's 17071 test numbers for verification
Therefore on a line with problem(s) eradicated the sync and speed should increase (should it not)
Please please do not insult BTOpenreach and my intelligence, even after BTOpenreach personnel had even seen my speeds increase to what I was getting with my previous ISP, whilst they were here at my property
as for the likes of kitz adsl calculator, in all honesty it is outdated and inaccurate therefore it cant be relied upon any more for accuracy
At the moment I can not get access to my previous speeds stored by my previous ISP as they have taken it down, the attached file was recorded via http://www.speedtest.net which was using the same Netgeardgn2000 that I am using at this moment in time,
Therefore the only change(s) at this moment in time are LLU replaced with standard equipment at the exchange, speech clipping disappeared and not at optimised sync locally due to the fact that Earlier today you will see that there was no connection due to a brief power cut,

What does PlusNet propose to do to rectify this issue ?Huh
I have even had an apology from

Dear Sir,
Thank you for getting back to us.
I'm sorry to hear that you had previously been told that we would provide better speeds that your previous ISP. Your connection estimate for your line is 6Mbps which you are currently preforming higher that. Unfortunately we are unable to progress this as a fault as it is preforming above the line expectations. If you do start to have any further issues then please don't hesitate to come back to us
Please do not hesitate to get back in touch online at http://contactus.plus.net or by phone on 0800 432 0200 if we can be of further assistance.
Kind regards,
[Removed - inline with PlusNet policy]

Typically my line is reported as 6-9 Mbps no matter which checker is used, however from experience and actual proof, my line is and has been capable of a lot more, therefore the line estimate(s) are very conservative to say the least.
Therefore if PlusNet are not capable of providing the speeds I used to have with my previous ISP and they Do not (I Repeat) Do not have a 3db profile, which can be ruled out of the equation
Are PlusNet going to apologise for mis-selling their broadband, with false promises ?Huh
How long will it take PlusNet to admit that there is a fault since I am not getting any where near the speeds of my previous ISP ?Huh
Have PlusNet not seen the errors on the line in the graphs I have provided ?Huh

Re: speed faster with previous ISP

A line with that kind of Attenuation, you are lucky to get 8mb!
I guess previous provider had your SNR like 3db? to get that extra speed from it  Roll_eyes

Re: speed faster with previous ISP

So an example of the stats with the previous ISP - bold added - it was using interleaving:
Quote
Upstream line rate (kbit/s) 995
Downstream line rate (kbit/s) 9433
Line standard ADSL2+
Channel type Interleaved
Upstream SNR (dB) 5.7
Downstream SNR (dB) 3.6
Upstream interleave depth 4
Downstream interleave depth 64

Upstream line attenuation (dB) 29.5
Downstream line attenuation (dB) 52
Upstream output power (dBmV) 12.5
Downstream output power (dBmV) 0
Upstream CRC 34077
Downstream CRC 65504
Upstream FEC 331
Downstream FEC 65512

Quote from: ejs
I suppose an alternative option would be to have interleaving set to always on, that might allow a higher sync speed, and reduce the number of CRC errors, although interleaving would also increase latency.

You can still ask for interleaving to be turned on. And for the upstream to be uncapped if you still want that done, if an order for it hasn't been placed yet.

Re: speed faster with previous ISP

Hi ejs
You are correct it was interleaving Smiley and no order has been requested yet alone ordered as yet
According to DSLstats with the TG582n I am on the Interleaved
{admin}=>xdsl info expand=enabled
Physical Layer Statistics:
  Modem state:                                  up
  Up time (Days hh:mm:ss):                      0 days, 1:00:01
  xDSL Standard:                                ITU-T G.992.5
  xDSL Annex:                                    Annex A
  Channel Mode:                                  Interleaved

According to DSLstats with the Netgear I am on the fast
adslctl info --stats
adslctl: ADSL driver and PHY status
Status: ShowtimeRetrain Reason: 1
Channel: FAST, Upstream rate = 448 Kbps, Downstream rate = 7975 Kbps
Link Power State: L0
Mode:                  ADSL2+
Channel:                Fast
Trellis:                U:ON /D:ON
Line Status:            No Defect
Training Status:        Showtime
                Down            Up
SNR (dB):      6.0            17.4

Rate (Kbps):    7975            448
                        G.dmt framin

Would I need to start a new thread to make a request for interleaved to be turned on and upload uncapped or will the PN staff pick it up from here,
If it is the latter the can I ask PN staff  for interleaving to be turned on. And for the upstream to be uncapped Smiley

Re: speed faster with previous ISP

Had to contact phone support over a non related issue, and then asked if they were able to look into the speed issues.
It was decided to leave the interleaved on auto and to leave the cap on the upstream as it would compromise the Downstream speed.
However all was not lost and it was decided against the support analysts judgement that I would try going on the 3db profile.

Dear Sir,
As per our conversation I've changed the SNR to 3db at your request, you are aware this may cause the line to be intermittent and we cant request another reset of the line until the 12/01/14.
Please contact us back should you require further assistance.
Kind regards
,
As my previous ISP never had the 3db option open to their clients
Therefore as a result is the information in the screenshot taken from http://speedtest.btwholesale.com to be expected

Re: speed faster with previous ISP

Uncapping the upstream should not compromise the downstream speed.
The BT speedtester result could just be wrong, but I would be interested in seeing the ADSL sync speeds and stats, and also the Plusnet Current Line Speed.

Thats not what a PlusNet CSC Analyst told me on the dognbone, between approx 5:30pm - 6:00pm, Thursday 2 Jan 2014
Now I am confused to which info is correct
We already know that PN sales mis-sold me the product by telling me I would get better speeds than my previous ISP, and latest info is that apparently the IPStream is slower than the LLU system
what are the true facts ?Huh
