slow speeds

Before i get started i did read the sticky regarding slow speeds (although i didnt read it all  Embarrassed i've used the BT speed tested which gave the following results:
IP profile for your line is - 6500 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  1728 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 78 kbps
according to the slow speed sticky 78 kbps was the speed i currently had, i had no idea it was this slow and according to my family, its been like this for 2 days now, also here is a router repot:
Uptime: 0 days, 5:43:06

Modulation: G.992.1 annex A

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 1,728

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]: 53.64 / 124.94

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11.5 / 18.0

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 24.0 / 44.0

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 19.0 / 16.0

Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / TSTC

Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Link (Remote): 0

Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 16,804

CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 582

HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 522

has anyone got any ideas why the speed has fallen so low and how to fix it?

Those two figures don't compute. Basically you're synchronising at 1728kbps but your IP profile is 6500kbps. I would never expect the IP profile to be higher than your sync speed (it's impossible to download at a higher rate than what you're synchronised at).
It would be worth you raising a ticket to allow our faults guys the opportunity to look into it.

Re: slow speeds

Completely ignoring the fact that the IP Profile is wrong, I'd certainly be a little concerned by the fluctuating sync speeds.
Do you see much fluctuation in speeds after doing a reboot?
How long has this been a problem for?
Are you connecting into your master socket via a filter?
Have you tried changing your filter?
I'd be inclined to think that the fault is sync speed related over anything else.

Re: slow speeds

speed is the same with a reboot (BT speed tested shows 78 kbps again  :'()
Its been this speed for 3 days now
I changed the filter and it is connected to the master socket

Re: slow speeds

Hi Silvacrest,
What's more important than the throughput (download speeds) is the actual synchronisation speed, which will show as the connection speed in the BT Speedtester.  did you notice an improvement in this at all?

Re: slow speeds

Results from BT speed tested that i just did:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 6500 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  2048 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 74 kbps

Re: slow speeds

I'm wondering if the apparent stuck profile being higher than the sync rate is causing framing errors, which would possibly explain the very low throughput?
Simply put, is BT trying to squeeze a truckload of data into a connection that can only handle a mini!

Re: slow speeds

I suspect the same, but not quite. The stuck profile means we have data to reflect it, thus we are sending it too fast. As a temporary measure, I feel we should reduce the profile to 1500 (fluctuations dictate this and not 2000).
I would do this myself, but don't have the needed access from here.
I suspect in the case of this line, it is classed as a flappy line and as such, it is not a stuck profile.
A flappy line, or chronic line as it is called by BT, is were there fluctuations are so rapid, it is not capable of recalculating the new profile.
There is a risk here though that a 1000 cap may be placed on this line.
My top tip for this customer is to follow the remainder of the posting by James about speed faults. Flappy lines are near enough always a local issue. Proof of this is from when we used to call customers that had flapping lines (we hope to do this again some day).

Re: slow speeds

I've applied a connection profile of 1500Kbps at this end.
If you reboot again, could you let us know what you see from your speedtest then?

Re: slow speeds

Nice one James.
A reconnect will be required for this.
As per my suggestion, get the remainder of the local checks performed. The stuck profile such as this is an indicator of the flappy line, and the process is likely to kick in a cap at any time (evident by the amount of time this has been happening).
Whilst the cap can be removed when applied (which is applied by BT not PlusNet), but will hamper your investigation, as it results in the connection stabilising in the majority of cases, thus preventing you being able to do proper local diagnostics.

Re: slow speeds

Hi Silvacrest,
I've just been having a chat with our faults people here and we're currently in the process of raising your fault with BT as things don't look right somehow!

Re: slow speeds

Ok  Cry
i was hoping it would be something that could be fixed quickly
now that BT is involved im sure it will be a while before the problem is sorted  Lips_are_sealed
