Re: router drop out

OK, whilst you are running in the test socket, what colour wires are connected to the faceplate that go to the extension socket and what number terminals are they connected to?

Re: router drop out

You need to disconnect the orange/white cable on terminal 3 - that's the ring wire, and unless you have a very old phone on the extension, it isn't needed.
Have a look at the Kitz site for an explanation and illustrations.

Re: router drop out

Hi starkie1800,
as Jaggies has mentioned, remove the orange wire from terminal 3 on the front plate, there's nothing at the back of the test socket except the feed from the exchange (usually) apart from which you shouldn't touch that, that bit is OpenReach's responsibility.
If there were a white/orange wire on terminal 4, that can be removed as well. Do this at the back of the extension socket(s) as well.
As you have broadband, those wires are not needed at all, even for older phones. The filter creates its own local ring (bell) wire.
Having disconnected the ring wire, an iplate would unlikely make any difference. apart from which if your front plate has the OpenReach logo on it, it won't fit. It only fits to the previous version of the master socket front plate with the BT logo. The latest OpenReach  socket has a bell wire filter in it, but it is still better to remove the orange wires.

Re: router drop out

Well it will when you go back to your normal setup, but you still have the underlying problem.
Can you post the latest ADSL line stats from your modem/router.

Re: router drop out

I can't provide the answer but have noticed what seem strange modem stats, maybe someone can answer?
How can this modem be syncing at 4864 with an attenuation of 48dB and a SNR of 15.5dB? Correct for 6dB - but 15.5dB? Sounds all wrong to me!
Could this be the reason for all the disconnects? Too high a sync for the line capability?
Probably all wrong, just thought I'd ask.

Re: router drop out

Hi Stumpy21,
No, no real problem with the stats, with a high quality line that can be achievable. What would you say to 7552kbps with 42 dB attenuation and a 7.1dB noise margin ?
Starkie1800, I assume that's the same modem/router as yesterday, don't want any changes at the moment whilst we consider the next move. Your noise margin has increased since that last resync which means either the noise is up and down like a yoyo, or something causing noise has gone away at the moment. Thanks for those last stats, was just going to ask for them!  Another set about 8.pm if you can manage it. Also late tonight as late as you wish to manage.
Just want to try and clear up a couple of points, what was happening when it last dropped, were you there did you notice anything, have a chance to pick up the phone?
Going back to your original post, can you clarify in a bit more detail what you were doing at the time, you talked about your system log. Then in reply #2 you talked about clearing out the old log and resetting the router, was this when you were talking about the logs in the original post or later?
When you posted stats yesterday morning about 1000, was there anything electrical running then that isn't now that you know of?

Re: router drop out

Ok so far, no drops since the stats at 1821 (reply #23). CRC errors OK. No major change in Noise margin.
I don't know what to make if that sys log at the moment.
Edit: What version tp-link w8951nd is that you are using?
