Re: problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

Same problems here as well.
I had speed problems a few months back in this thread http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,76953.0/topicseen.html and they seem to have returned.

Re: problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

Just to confirm for James' benefit that it definitely happens on a weekend  -- just past six and speed has crashed to 249 (download, using mybroadbandspeed)) -- interestingly upload speed at all times seems to be within a couple of k of 370 ...

Re: problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

I've started a tracking thread which will hopefully present the relevant information to PN in a standardised format, which should help draw attention to any trends that may be occurring.
Could I ask you to fill in a 'report' there?
B.

Re: problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

I've just had my ticket updated to say there's no detectable fault on my line,  and do I want to go forward with a BT engineer call-out?
Well clearly the answer's no, but tonight I still have

Today 18:30 252 kbps (31.5kB/s) 368 kbps (46kB/s)

Is there anything else I can do to help PN track down what's going wrong with these connections?
(although not all the reports in Barry's tracking thread seem manifestations of the same problem -- especially the guy who's gone over his allowance)

Re: problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

Nope - A number of those are about profiles, usages and dropping connections.
Paul - Did you try using a lower MTU at any stage? 1430 for example?
Have we tried moving you onto max premium or anything like that?

Re: problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

Yes James I did try resetting the MTU and reported back above in this very thread - http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,79494.msg647792.html#msg647792
In fact I'm still running with the lowered MTU and still experiencing the same extraordinary slowdowns, roughly between 17:30 and 19:30 though it varies, and of course I can't say about times I'm not there to monitor it .
If you check my open tickets you should find the things that have been tried are normal line tests (no fault found, although there are contradictory statements by CSC reps about that ), a suggestion of rebooting my router, and the offer of a BT engineer (at the usual price).

How about Max Premium?

Re: problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

What about it? Smiley
Seriously though, I don't see how that would help ... I thought that MP made avialable upload speeds to "up to 832k" on a non-business account, whereas the problem I'm having is extremely low download speeds and very poor browsing in a particualar timeframe.
Also of course it's an extra 8 quids a month isn't it?

Re: problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

max preminum also gives you more prioity over the BTw network as well as the increased upload speeds.
i belive i think it takes it down from the standard 50:1 contention to 20:1 meaning if its exchange capicty you should see better speeds

Re: problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

hmmm ok but that's still £8 a month more plus we're no closer to establishing what the problem actually is ; so if it isn't a case of contention/congestion then ...

It's not £8 a month more if I don't charge you for it.

Re: problem with broadband speed (not just pcl-ag04)

well despite never being averse to something for nothing, i do wonder what the catch might be? I
is there a down-side ?
I)'m happy enough on my currrent product though (I know it's moribund) ... would i stay on BB+ and get MP on top ?  )
