phone ring cause disconnection

Have been getting a lot of disconnections with my Billion 7800N. I suspected it was intermittently being caused by the phone ringing. Have done all the usual checks, Master socket, filter, different router etc. Eventually I had the Billion in the MS, no filter, no phone whilst calling the landline with my mobile, sure enough I can make the Billion disconnect  eventually (usually very quickly) every time. I did the same with my WAG54GS and no disconnections in a whole bunch of attempts.
Before I raise a ticket or send the router back (only 6mths old)  what do you think: faulty router or a line issue that the Billion is more sensitive to?

Re: phone ring cause disconnection

I have a Netgear DG834G v4 which uses the Broadcom BCM6348 chipset, similar to the BCM6358 in your Billion.
My Netgear also suffers from this issue more than, say, my older Texas Instruments AR7-based DG834Gv2 or my 2wire 2700HGV. I can make all of them disconnect eventually by making the phone ring, but the Netgear drops out far more easily. Reading that, some people may be thinking that I've tweaked the SNR on the DG834Gv4 to sacrifice stability in favour of speed, but pushing the SNR way up does not cure the problem with the Netgear, so perhaps it's just more sensitive to this.
(this is after all the usual checks, e.g. different micro filters, no micro filter directly in test socket etc.)

Although it is not a fault i have come across very often the cause has usually been the result off star wiring in the EU property. Disconnecting the Bell Wire to all extension sockets may solve the issue. To be honest if you have broadband and extension sockets in your property the Bell wire should not be connected at all as the mico filter will take over its job.
You could also try to reverse the polarity off the incoming pair... BThome hubs can throw a tantrum if polarity is incorrect.

Re: phone ring cause disconnection

Bell wire was removed about 15yrs ago when the master socket was moved.
My home wiring is dead simple: Under road wire- BT joint in the hall- Master socket - plate filter-  router (DSL socket)/ wireless phones on extension (phone socket).
Both filters seem to be working fine with WAG54.
I did tweak the SNR on the Billion when I first bought it (that is why I forked out £118) but the bloody network just compensated and shoved the SNR back up again! The bandwidth gain was very minimal for me.

Re: phone ring cause disconnection

Can one of you Plusnet folk take a look at my Line stability since the 25th. I have been using the old WAG since some point on the 24th.
This will help me determine if I should return the Billion as faulty.
Thanks.

Re: phone ring cause disconnection

Your line appears to of become stable since you have switched routers.

I would definitely consider returning your Billion router.

Thanks mate.
Just so you know a lot of the disconnections were me testing!
Do I have access to session stats (I did look around my account)?

Not other than the type of connection logs that Chris posted for you above. I've just checked those now and can see an ongoing 5 day connection which looks good:

Re: phone ring cause disconnection

Shame. My previous provider did and it made some problem solving quicker.

Re: phone ring cause disconnection

Cheers for the feedback about that guys.
We're happy to provide visual connection logs upon request for the moment but do appreciate it would be simpler if you could access them yourselves.
