I take it (and hope) that changing channel no longer has any impact on your throughput speeds?

i have not tried it am leaving it on automatic it has chosen channel 1  straight out of the box and speed is more than .5 higher than the old router which i will posting back in the bag that came with the new router once again thank you for spending the time to listen to my concerns .

I think you may have misread that, it wasn't the speed on the actual wireless channel that was being affected, it was on his ethernet connection. The wireless channel (set on auto) had changed to 6 after a power outage. On changing it back to 1, his ethernet speed went from 0.7 to 3.8. This suggested a faulty router.
