Re: faulty download speed @ 0.250Mb

Well.apart from the slower speed compared to what your line should achieve, those CRC error figures are remarkably low  Shocked  Huh
Yes you could try using the 585 v7, don't forget the Disconnect method, but a couple of points, did your friend have this for Plusnet? If not, it maybe locked to another provider and you may not be able to browse with it, but with a bit of luck it will at least sync so that you can get stats. You need to do a factory reset first to clear any previous password and username etc. Power it up but don't connect it to the line.
There is a small pin hole in the back, see http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/hardware/thomson-585-faqs-and-troubleshooting.shtml#factoryRes.... Then connect your computer to it by Ethernet but don't plug it into the line yet, try logging into it, see http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/hardware/thomson-585-faqs-and-troubleshooting.shtml#userPass
Once you get logged into it, fine.
If you want to connect by wireless, set that up now before you connect to the line at the master socket. Once connected to the line, straight away go and get the stats http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/hardware/thomson-585-faqs-and-troubleshooting.shtml#lineStats exactly as for the 582n and save them in a text file. Do this quickly and the next bit.
Then go to the Internet box and click View more and try entering your Broadband username and password - it should be in the format <usename>@plusdsl.net and the password is the one you login to the member centre with.
This is where it may not work for one of two possible reasons. It may be locked to another provider, or it may configure itself automatically to your friend's account if on Plusnet
If all goes well then post the stats. If not, then use the Disconnect method, turn off the 585 and reconnect your 582n.

Re: faulty download speed @ 0.250Mb

That's great - really glad to hear that the issue has been resolved. I've just nudged your Speed Profile up on our systems, this should automatically drop your PPP session (Internet connection but not the connection to your Local Exchange) and automatically reconnect you.

Re: faulty download speed @ 0.250Mb

Which modem/router did he say you should get upgraded, the 585 you borrowed or the 582n that you have?

Ah, I thought from an earlier post your main one was a TG582n, sorry about that!
