Re: exceptionally slow broadband

Steve,

If you have a (ideally) corded phone, do you notice any noise on the line?

Just to rule out a landline fault.

Re: exceptionally slow broadband

Hi Alex

my phone is ancient but yes, not a pure tone, with some noise.

Re: exceptionally slow broadband

The fact you said some noise could be worrying.

I am not saying it is, but you need to rule it out. If you disconnect the phone and have the router plugged into the master socket, nothing else just temperately see if your speeds are any better. Disconnect any extensions too, just your router plugged into your master socket. I have had broken extensions which have caused noise on my line. You can do the test socket too.

You need to rule out the old phone being broken, if you have access to another (either a spare or a friend, etc. may lend you one).

Also try a 17070 option 2 to see if you still hear noise on a quiet line test. Ideally do that on a different phone to rule out a fault with your own, though it sounds to me there could be a problem with your line.

Re: exceptionally slow broadband

Hi there,

Tests don't flag up anything specific but thre's undoubtedly an issue as I can see the connection has been dropping and as a result DLM has restricted speeds right down to 200kbps.

I'd rule out the obvious stuff first as per what's shown here: https://goo.gl/tu2WWu

Once that's out of the way do report a fault at http://faults.plus.net and drop us a reply back here.

Re: exceptionally slow broadband

Thanks Adam,

It's just if the OP can hear noise on the line, they need to check it out and be assured it is not within their property it is external.

I admit it is a bit of hassle, but not too bad.

I think I've fixed this for you now.

Re: exceptionally slow broadband

Hi there

thanks so much, just did speed test: 5.66 download and 0.16 upload

Still very slow.....

I'm running mac equipment if that makes any difference, are there settings on the router I can change to gain optimum speed?

Best and thanks for rapid response!

Re: exceptionally slow broadband

Glad to hear your speed is better Steve.

We're seeing your router in sync at 13mbps so you should be seeing more than around 5mbps.

Is your Mac connected over WiFi to your router? If so could you try plugging it in using an ethernet cable to see how the speeds compare?

Re: exceptionally slow broadband

Our tests aren't showing any issues now.

Are you able to try a wired connection to see how things compare?

Re: exceptionally slow broadband

hi again

Just plugged in ethernet direct to router. Speed a lot better

latency 1.92 ms download 7.9 mbps and upload 0.3 mbps

Can I adjust router for wi-fi as inconvenient to sit in the hall by the hub..

Best

Re: exceptionally slow broadband

Hiya Steve.

That does look better.

You could try changing the wireless channel which may help improve your WiFi connectivity.

This guide should help out: https://community.plus.net/t5/Plusnet-Blogs/How-to-boost-your-wi-fi/ba-p/1450193

Cheers
