Re: dsl not connected and speed issues

I can only see four wires, Blue/Blue White going to terminals 2 and 5, and Orange/Orange White going to terminals 3 and 4. 90% of the time this is how BT will terminate to the faceplate.
Remove the orange/orange white pair from terminals  3 and 4.
Can you confirm that the cable going down the wall is the one attached to the faceplate and the other cable is the BT incoming cable.

Re: dsl not connected and speed issues

You can read here the reason the orange pair are removed from terminal 3 and 4. http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm

Re: dsl not connected and speed issues

The one going down the wall goes to a BT ISDN (i was told it was disconnected) the one that comes through the wall is the incoming line

Re: dsl not connected and speed issues

I would just remove the 2 wires from terminals 3 and 4 replace everything plug the router into the socket you want to use and leave it on for a couple of days monitoring the SNR margin.

Re: dsl not connected and speed issues

When you do that can you report the stats again as I want to see what has happened to the attenuation with everything connected

Re: dsl not connected and speed issues

Speed tests won't show anything as you are being restricted by the IPprofile - the stats are what we are interested in

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11.5 / 18.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 19.0 / 34.0

Re: dsl not connected and speed issues

The attenuation is still higher than at the master test socket.
Can you unplug all the phones and see if it changes. If it reduces can you plug them back in one at a time to see which ones cause the problem

Re: dsl not connected and speed issues

this is with all 4 phones disconnected....
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11.5 / 18.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 19.0 / 34.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 21.0 / 16.0

Re: dsl not connected and speed issues

Can you resync the router.
The reason is that last night we were getting these results
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:   448 / 3,776
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:   18.0 / 31.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]:   21.0 / 15.0
whereas we are now getting this
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:   448 / 2,112
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:   19.0 / 34.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]:   21.0 / 15.5
Note the major drop in speed
Edit - with that attenuation you should be getting speeds well over 4000kbps even with a 15dB noise margin and the only reason you have such a high noise margin is instability on the line

Re: dsl not connected and speed issues

The easy way is to unplug it from the mains and then plug it in again.
However with that router you can do it from the web interface I believe
Go to Broadband Connection page and you should see this
