connection speed dropped

I have always had a fairly consistent connection speed of 2368 or 2336 which has given a line speed of 2000.
During the last few weeks this has dropped overnight to 2176 or 2240. Although it often reverts to 2336 after a reboot next morning, the line speed rarely goes back up to 2000 but stays at 1750 as it never seems to have sufficient time to recover.
Any ideas what might be causing this, and what can be done to stabilise it again?

Looking at this graph showing when you're router has disconnected it might be due to the disconnections shown.
Given the timings I'm wondering if you're switching your router on/off just before 9am?

Re: connection speed dropped

I have been rebooting each morning at about 9.00 in order to bring the connection speed back up. Overnight it always drops to 2176 which is too low to retain the 2000 rate from BT.

Re: connection speed dropped

Hi,
I've just taken a quick look at your connection and can see that your Line Quality is Red, this means that only negative changes are going to be made to your line by the DLM (Dynamic Line Management).
It's probably put it in 'Red' due to the router reboots that you do to push your speeds back up. Could you please, just for the next 3 days, not restart your router so we can see if your line quality improves?

Re: connection speed dropped

Thanks Chris. Will do.
Interestingly, it's been stable on 2336 since yesterday (Tuesday) morning.

That sounds promising.
I will keep a close eye on the connection for you over the next few days Smiley

Re: connection speed dropped

Speed dropped overnight to 2176, so that's too low now to bring it back above 1750. There was a disconnect for some reason at about 6am according to the router stats. Don't know why that might have happened.
I noticed yesterday evening that the SN MARGIN had dropped to 5 although it was still connecting at 2336. Might this be connected with the problem?
It's also been raining again. Possible reason?

Re: connection speed dropped

Hi there,
I've placed a SNR reset on your line in an attempt to bring your noise margin down, this will take effect in the next four hours and again if you could leave your connection on as your line will be placed into a 10 day training period.

Re: connection speed dropped

Thanks.
We had a power cut last night because of the high winds. Hope we don't have another, but we are very rural here... I will let you know if it happens again.

Re: connection speed dropped

I've just had a quick look at the connection logs, I can only see one disconnection in the last 24 hours so the speed should settle down if things stay like that.
Let us know if you notice any more issues though.

Re: connection speed dropped

Since the reset the sync speed has remained above 2MB, connecting at anything between 2272 and 2746. It seems to reset itself early in the morning. It's currently 2656. So I think that's problem solved!
Thanks for your advice and help.
Bring on the high speed broadband for all..... Any bets?
