Re: why has my sync speed dropped after months of being over 8000Kbps?

Raise this with Plusnet.
If the BT speedtests don't work for you, just say so and give results from Plusnet's own speedtester.

Re: why has my sync speed dropped after months of being over 8000Kbps?

Could also be that a router at the exchange has been reset as a result of maintenance.
Remember that with Rate Adaptive DSL any break in the link can be interpreted by the monitoring systems as line instability and so the line profile will be reset and then over the coming days the transfer load will be increased until the max line rate is reached or your connection is dropped by your router and then the whole process starts again, thats what I find annoying about ADSL.
Support should be able to check whether there has been maintenance going on (bear in mind that BT are rolling out their 21st Century Network as opposed to th 19th Century one we have now.  Grin

Like I said, give me an Ethernet connection with a fibre backhaul but saying that the chavs would have a field day with the street cabinets which would be required because of the 100 metres limitation of Ethernet.

I'm not aware of "chavs" vandalising street cabinets. Virgin already have the equipment in their street cabs BT have already committed itself to offering FTTC for 60% of UK homes by 2012.
It only remains to see if they will deliver.

Re: why has my sync speed dropped after months of being over 8000Kbps?

unplugged everything today and just had the router in the service socket of the master socket and best I can sync at is just over 1000kbps, so I've raised a ticket.
could a faulty micro filter cuase this sort of problem? I seem to have had a lor more back ground noise on the phone when the computer is on?

yep a faulty filter could be the issue, you will no doubt be asked by plusnet to try a different one.

I wouldn't know anything about pop culture (including the Arctic Monkeys) as I'm either working or studying with the need for sleep every now and then Smiley and my choice of music is Trance.
Anyway, I have nothing against people from the North, my Grandparents lived in West Yorks and I spent a lot of time up there when I was a kid and in my experience people from the North of England are a lot more trustworthy than those down here.
Indeed, I've given some very serious thought to moving to Yorkshire.

If "those down here" = London then I very strongly agree with you.
