cant get iplayer on TV but Ok on PC

So it seems the plusnet router wont let me use ethernet to access iplayer on TV as I can get in on my PC fine. When I contacted plusnet they said they were not allowed to tell me how to open a port on my router to do this and I should ask you guys out there in the community.
PLEASE help...I am not am a woman on my own with not one friendly technophile in sight and I have tried everything to get the TV to do what it says on the tin. All signs indicate problem with plusnet router.
What do I do?

Which signs exactly, please document them here.
It is not normally necessary to make any changes to a router configuration to accomodate iPlayer on a TV or any other compatible device.

OK will try to be more helpful
have connected my new digital TV to ethernet and there is no automatic input of settings for the internet.
My TV has a HUMAX freesat HD box and the ethernet goes into that. When I search HUMAX forums they said the router was the problem (what do I know?).
I have tried setting the IP address etc by hand on the TV settings but still no joy. BBC iplayer still says TV is not connected to internet even though it is.

Also....as iplayer works fine on my PC via ethernet does that suggest that the Freesat box is at fault??? I would like to know for sure so I can pursue that as they (Humax say it is the router)...

So presumably it's not your TV that's not finding iPlayer it's your Humax box.  
Has the Humax box got the latest firmware version (you'll find that on the menus) and exactly what model is it.

Yes checked all the latest upgrades are done (via the TV settings menu)

Is your Foxsat correctly configured to your router? Can you see it's IP address in the network section of the menu?
It's best to use the DHCP setting.

HZPTSF 1.00.28 is what mine has and that works fine on iPlayer.
I had to upgrade mine when I got it before iPlayer worked.

I have a Foxsat-HDR and the software version is HPRSFCI 1.00.17

Am going to try this now...I didnt use the DHCP setting before so this might be a good lead, thank you

As is mine; that also works on iPlayer. 
(2 systems in different rooms, 1 dish with quad LNB)

That WILL be your problem.
But surely it's the default anyway.  
Doesn't say much about the help on the Humax forums though............

OK have tried the DHCP setting via 'Apply' button in settings but makes no difference ...iplayer still says 'Not connected'
Checked software for humax box and it is HZPTSF 1.100.28  which others say works fine for them
Ethernet ID is 00-03-78-B6-C7-A1 if that means anything
Am really out of ideas now

And the really importan tthing which is why the router is suspect is that I cannot see any IP address for the router
this is why I went via manual and put in the IP address to start with
Have now tried manual and DHCP but of course with no recognistion of my router it cannot do it automatically...
