Re: broadband speed

Well perhaps you could explain how you come to that conclusion about it being his end, as it would no doubt be of benefit to Fireant. He's already pointed out that with exactly the same setup he did not have an issue speedwise with his previous supplier.
Considering the manner of your post #86, if I were Fireant, and without my knowledge, I would have taken that to mean oh they won't investigate so I'm off. It has not been proven AFAIK that a fault needs to be raised to BTw. If Plusnet don't even want to investigate further, then they will lose a customer.

Re: broadband speed

hi ive read the other posts and your correct if everything had gone to what had been the same as from titanadsl which speed was fine no problems but since joining here then i had problems but that was router to blame as netgear said it was a hardware problem bought new router and still the same but with less disconnections  and support was saying they were basically wernt going to look into it so thats the reason why i chose some where else as i know for sure the speeds were great wireless as between 15mb and 16mb but dont know the speeds threw ethernet as i use wireless all the time .
If they had been a problem withtitanadsl then i would of got straight onto them as i think really you know roughly what speed your line can handle but ive never seen any more than 12mb from joing in october but i would have really thort it would have been the same and reason why i joined is it was cheaper and thort id give them a go s speeds should be the same and would have been happy with same as i get usual  and would have stayed as end of the day i dont like keep moving around more hassel than its worth to be honest .

Re: broadband speed

Ok, let me be sure I've understood this correctly., so that perhaps everyone else does. You were fine with titanadsl. On moving to Plusnet you had throughput speed issues (sync speed is fine) which Netgear said was the Router (you sent it back) and another Netgear Modem/Router has the same throughput problems (but you do get less disconnects). This does seem to suggest that the problem is not at your end. And to cap it all, Support basically told you they weren't going to look into it.  Is that correct?

Re: broadband speed

A question - and before anyone jumps all over me I haven't read through this whole thread to check - have you ever checked with a wired connection

Re: broadband speed

Starting to suspect that it will indeed be down to wireless to be honest. Anotherone, if as Fireant says he has never used Wired connections how do we know the speeds were the same? Apologies if I've missed something there.
And with regard to yet another argument breaking out, seriously, stop it. Once again, it does not do anyone any favours. There are no points to be won.
As far as I can see, aside from the finger pointing pretty much all the information that's been put in so far is relevant to the issue - can I suggest that those who feel the need to take umbrage when other people post information stop before they reply, take a breath and think 'is this aimed at me or is it trying to help the OP, which is after all the point of these forums?' and apply it to their own reply before posting?
Thank you.

Re: broadband speed

basically support said in a way 12mb was bout right for my line but why should it be when i know it can be faster than that . The download speed my router syncs at is fine i would say but not seeing the speeds i should be and when buying the new router i still get disconnections but not as much as with my dgn1000 i had .

Re: broadband speed

Hi Fireant,
Your router is actually syncing at a higher speed than you are seeing, you should be seeing 18MB/s so it may be a case that the speeds are being lost though your wireless connection.

Re: broadband speed

Some of the earlier replies showed the same speed with a wired connection.

Re: broadband speed

I would like to see the result of a thinkbroadband speed test using a different PC, over a wired connection as that would eliminate a lot of different factors. Would it be possible to do that?
Edit: Just seen your post. Could you try the tester I linked on both PC's using wired links please?

Re: broadband speed

Apologies for missing that. Well the only other thing we could try that isn't raising a fault is an SNR reset - I don't think that's been tried yet? It'd probably be worth a go. Fireant, that'd let your line retrain at its best possible speed and should hopefully remove the bottleneck, wherever it is - if you're happy to try it?
Provided these drops are you resetting the router, that is:

Matt, Chris, jelv - you may also wish to take into account http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,110253.msg947810.html#msg947810 and the next 10 or so posts in your ponderings, because I'm scratching my head at the moment.,
