Michael,
I've asked Paul to give you a ring on your mobile.

Re: Yet another Speed Issue

Hi James
I have been away on holiday for a week and just a few hours ago a BT engineer has stopped by my house and he confirmed that there was a fault on the line as the cable externally was really loose, hence why the voice line was so bad. Apparently he has fixed that but I am not at home to check on sync speed. Can you guys from your end check what the sync speed is like? The modem is connected and your site says 1000 but I would like to think than this will now increase to 5-6Mbits over the next few days if not straight away.
Could you please check and get back to me?
Also since the connection speed has been virtually unusable (you can check on that by my usage since broadband activation day (c 17th January)) I was wandering if we could look into some refund for that time?
Any help will be appreciated and thanks for all your help to date on this issue.
Thanks
Michael

Re: Yet another Speed Issue

Michael,
Is a sync speed of 7424Kbps okay?  We're just waiting on your IP Profile to change, at which point you should be in for a nice surprise!

Re: Yet another Speed Issue

Hey James
Yeah that sounds like my kind of speed...better than what I had before...ever. Thank you ever so much!
Will I have to go through the 10 days of waiting for the speed to settle again?
Just came back from Greece and over there they're installing fiber optic quite fast. ANy chance of PlusNet picking some of that trend up? Or at least a 24Mbits 'upgrade' over the entire network?
Finally, chance of a refund?
Thanks again
Michael

Re: Yet another Speed Issue

Er, to go into a little more detail!
You shouldn't have to wait the full ten days again, it should just be 2 or 3 days before your speed go upto a more friendly level.
BT are currently running alpha testing on their WBC product which will offer download speeds of upto 24Mbps.
We'll either be joining at Beta or Live stage, depending on how well the alpha phase goes.
There's a really good post about WBC here:

Re: Yet another Speed Issue

Hi James
Sorry to go on about this again but my speed has not improved at the slightest. Was not expecting a massive change but there has been no improvement at all.
Please see attached screen shots. Sync Speed on the modem looks great but the actual speed is not.
Can you force the IP profile to change?
Thanks
Michael

Re: Yet another Speed Issue

Michael,
The last "bad" update from BT was here: 11/02/2008 09:15:15
This should mean that your profile will be amended on or by the 14th.
Unfortunately it is how the IPStream Max product is designed to work.

Re: Yet another Speed Issue

James
Just confirming that broadband now is working and back to regular speed of almost 6Mbs
Cheers for all your help. Looking forward to that 24Mbs speed when it comes. Just upgraded my router to an 'N' model as well so finally got a decent wireless network 802.11n working away.
Thanks
Michael
