Re: Would somebody please check BT speedtester?

It's not working. I tried FF and IE and got the same error.

Re: Would somebody please check BT speedtester?

I always get a different error.
This is a standard (permanent) error.
All the BT speedtester is good for is for showing your BT profile.
It doesn't check speed because it crashes at a figure of 96%.
Use the Plusnet speedtester - especially out of hours and use it on support tickets.

Re: Would somebody please check BT speedtester?

Actually it hasn't been working since yesterday morning.
I came on here intending to ask about it and was pleased to find that others were having the same problem because I thought there was something wrong with my Java Runtime setup.  Using IE7 I got no error message at all.  The Java symbol flashed up momentarily and then changed to a little cross in the corner.  I then tried using FF and got a little message: "Applet: ticker-applet2 not inited" .  I assumed this meant that a Java applet hadn't been initialised correctly which led me to suspect that my Java Runtime had become corrupted.
Thanks for subduing my fears.  Kiss

Re: Would somebody please check BT speedtester?

Crashes out with number of threads are 4! error when trying to run a speed test
FF 3.0.3 and Java 1.6 update 7
The UK's next generation net infrastructure is safe in BT's hands.....pure nonsense.
Why don't the government pay someone who knows how to run this stuff like Cogent or Level 3 to build, operate and maintain it rather than a dinosaur that should have been allowed to become extinct years ago and has been forced into the 21st Century by regulator pressure.

Why does it use Java?

Why does it use Java?

Probably because it is cross platform so they don't have to write code for multiple browsers

Re: Would somebody please check BT speedtester?

I've never managed to get BT speed checker to work completely.
I get "Exception access denied, java.net  socket denied permission " errors
so to me - it is not "fit for purpose" and a waste of time  Angry

Re: Would somebody please check BT speedtester?

Me too - surely it could run everything server-side - other speedtesters manage to do it.

Re: Would somebody please check BT speedtester?

It would not be possible to test the connection speed if everything ran server side.
There needs to be a test component to monitor from the client side and provide feedback to the server application.
The tend to use either Java (BT) or Adobe Flash (Plusnet's own speedtester)
