Is there anything I can do to increase my BB speed, Wireless v LAN cable ?.
Thomson router in use & in same room. Noise margin 6 - 8db, connection 8128 kbs. Wireless d/loads 3.2Mbs & LAN cable 6Mps. I would expect some fall off but not as great. Is it the router or my laptop?
If anyone has time to comment from their experience, much appreciated please.

Check the MTU setting on your router. If it is smaller than the setting on your PC it will have a more dramatic impact on wireless than on LAN. I've never seen any evidence that indicates having the router larger than the PC has a detrimental affect, so the simplest thing to do is to put the router MTU up to the maximum allowed (1500) and see if that helps.
I had a friend whose wireless throughput nearly doubled when he did that.

JoJo & Jelv - appreciated, many thanks.
I've tried changing the MTU to 1500 [decimal], following the Microsoft - 'How to change the PPPoE MTU size in Windows XP' @ :-
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;283165.
Doesn't seem to improve Wireless speed; just tried via Thinkbroadband & get - Wireless 2.6Mbps/0.4Mbps & cable 6.0Mbps/0.4Mbps.
Any other suggestions please or should I just settle for the cable dragged across the door!

No, no, no!
It's the MTU setting on your router that is crucial, it MUST be equal or larger than the PC MTU.

As you are on XP, give Dr TCP a twirl - it looks like the settings for your ethernet adaptor are fine, so check the wireless adapter and make sure the MTU and RWIN settings are the same for both adaptors.

As I indicated before, a wrong MTU will not affect wired much but can make a significant difference on wireless, so making the wireless MTU the same as wired may not give you optimum speed.
