Re: Windows Update

I've noticed windows updates seem painfully slow for me too.
On my current 3mb connection, I did a check for updates at 7.12pm, and it said there was 100.7mb to download.
It's now 7.30 and is only 65% done.  Undecided

Re: Windows Update

Hmmm wonder how many updates there will be tomorrow.
I say tomorrow because the updates seem to come out quite late sometimes
Edit out already three XP and one Office 2003

Re: Windows Update

Office 2003 was only the junk email filter - total size for me 20MB on Vista 64 bit - and it only took about 5 minutes to download - on Option 1

Re: Windows Update

Four updates today according to MIcrosoft, we're expecting a very busy night on the network. I'm keeping a very close on the network ready to make tweaks to try and keep things working properly. Haven't been helped by the loss of an LTS (1/3rd of segment ~50Mbps of bandwidth):

But hopefully things will be OK tonight, might be a little slower than it could be... Keep me posted please.

Re: Windows Update

As they seem to be only 20MB in size I wouldn't have expected a major load impact
PS - links to usertools don't work at the moment

Re: Windows Update

Depends how many are downloading them 20MB isn't a lot for one download, but depends how many download them. There'll be over 230,000 sessions used tonight, even if only 25% download the patches it adds up to a huge amount of traffic. (We normally see 3 spikes in MS update traffics, Tuesday 6-10pm, Wednesday 8am - 10am and Wednesday 6pm-10pm, sometimes a fourth on Thursday 6pm-10pm).
Network guys were looking at usertools when I left.
