Why o Why is my broadband speed so low

How do I get the line attenuation / noise level reduced to see if that helps ? Who changes it ?  Or is this not going to give me a significant increase ?

Normally the automatic systems look after it.
In theory Plusnet can request it but it isn't easy or simple getting BT Openreach to change it.
If, however, you download Routerstats http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/internet/files.htm there is this option which allows you to reduce your noise margin and also get better logging of what is happening (ignore the fact that I am using an older version - I can't be bothered to upgrade it)

OK downloaded routerstats and have it running however don't appear to get the 'telnet' tab showing to make the adjustments.

now configured it to get telnet tab up but can't see how to adjust the noise settings

Tried reducing to 6 dB  and  6 dB but nothing seems to have changed

It won't because your default margin isn't 6dB.
When you do a resync what is the noise margin reported as immediately afterwards.
That is the number you put in the default noise margin box - it is probably 15dB but it is better to check first

that is with both with both 'target snr' boxes set to 6 and pressing Rx Sync

What version of DMT did you download and are you sure your router's a DG834GT and not a DG834 or DG834G?

We are using Routerstats not DMT
@neepdocker see this picture for what you do - note there is a limit to how far you can drop the noise margin.
As a first try use these numbers

This has given me Rx noise 12.6 and  Rx sync 2720
tried copying the stats again but for sum reason refuses to copy and paste
What will I try next ?

tried  15 and 8 which gives 12.3 and 2848

Tried 15 and 6 which gives me 11.4 and 3040

This is now showing slower speed than when I first checked it !!

it will take a while for the profile to catch up with the synch speed - just patience, leave the router on
