Why is the upload speed so rubbish?

Given that I'm far from the exchange I know I can't get to super speeds, but still this was the last check on Wednesday

Upload speed it around 10% of the download value. Can't this be improved?

Re: Why is the upload speed so rubbish?

it can but the cost (besides money) will be a reduced download speed
Until recently I was synching at 8128 and profile 7150 and download about 6500, the normal max for ADSL and my upload was the max for that 380.  That is how ADSL works

Re: Why is the upload speed so rubbish?

I would say your upload is pretty much what I would expect on 8Mb ADSL.
If you look at my speeds below you will see my download speed is nearly twice what you get, but my upload speed is only slightly faster.

Re: Why is the upload speed so rubbish?

The A in ADSL stand for Asymmetric.  The asymmetry is in speeds; download is much faster than upload.

Re: Why is the upload speed so rubbish?

If you want to check the Kitz website http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/maxdsl.htm, the maximum upstream and downstream speeds are listed for the various ADSL types.
Note that these values are the sync speeds, and not the maximum profile value or maximum speed test numbers which will be at least 10% less.

Thanks for the replies Smiley
I know upload is always slower but was just surprised at how much and wasn't sure if it was right. Seems it is!

Re: Why is the upload speed so rubbish?

Dont think ADSL2 would do much for you, maybe in a few years you might get Fibre, then you can get faster uploads

I think I'll see pigs fly before BT decides to put Fibre round here! I won't lose hope though  Smiley

Re: Why is the upload speed so rubbish?

isn't ADSL2 potential upstream speed of up to 1.3Mbps if uncapped ?

Re: Why is the upload speed so rubbish?

Yes but as they are not getting a good plain ADSL download, they probably wont get a benefit from ADSL2 and might even get a loss
