Re: When will Plusnet launch a new router and a self install FTTC option?

I hear that when BT launch their self install FTTC, they will be expecting customers not to bother turning up at their own properties then blame the weather conditions and lie to their ISP as to why they haven't bothered plugging in their modems Wink

I would expect the penalties for those no-shows to be harsh.

No, I would expect the ISP's to pass on to the customer the £45 that BT will pay them because the "engineer" failed to turn up!  Cheesy

Note that it still requires the engineer to do work at the cabinet, so I expect we will still see installations not happening on time. I also expect to see statements from engineers that the cabinet doors were green as proof that they went to the correct cabinet.

Someone saying I don't need openreach modem for self install because my router DGND3700v2 are VDSL support. But, they don't understand because that Router only had ethernet port lan for VDSL, still need BT Openreach modem, so how on earth self install will be without openreach modem?

Very simple -, once it is in operation the router provided will include the necessary modem

So presumably with self-install, FTTC would be expected to put up with old-fashioned star-wiring and filters for each socket, or it would cost extra if you want a more modern master socket and centralized filter installed.

Re: When will Plusnet launch a new router and a self install FTTC option?

That would appear to be the case as providing a proper filtered faceplate could be problematical. Although star wiring without a proper master socket could be an interesting problem

Re: When will Plusnet launch a new router and a self install FTTC option?

Self-install becomes available for ISPs to offer from the end of this year:

It will be interesting to see what hardware ISPs offer.

Re: When will Plusnet launch a new router and a self install FTTC option?

From that briefing:
Quote
Managed Engineer Installation with CP Device (i.e. without the Openreach modem) – the Openreach engineer will visit the end user premises, do everything that they would with a managed install today (including installing a centralised filter, optimising home wiring and proving a working internet connection on an end user device), but plug directly into your  device, rather than installing an Openreach modem.

For anyone who has not got a proper master socket that sounds like the option to go for!

Re: When will Plusnet launch a new router and a self install FTTC option?

I had a self install trial install last week.  Plugged a Technicolor 589 into my master socket (filtered of course).  Estimated speed of 49Mbps.  Synced at 68Mbps, and it's dropped to about 62Mbps.  No problem so far.

So what is PN going to use as combined router/vdsl modem?
Technicolor 589?

No decision has been made yet.  The 589s were available for us to try out to see how the self install process works.

Re: When will Plusnet launch a new router and a self install FTTC option?

Just stick the hub 5's on the PN service.
That way to get more customers.  If you don't want the BT logo on, then put a PN logo on like the plus sign.  Wink

How about a 588v instead?  Tongue
