Re: What would cause TG582n to to lose WiFi on all devices at the same time

I have noticed some similarities & I also noticed you also had WiFi issue(s) on the 8.4.4.J Firmware

The 582n arrived. It was useless, it couldn't hold the DSL connection for more than 30 seconds. It wouldn't even let the computer downstairs connect to the wifi for some reason I will analyse later.

Re: What would cause TG582n to to lose WiFi on all devices at the same time

Cheers Adam
Although I am a bit sceptical that it will make a difference judging by the info contained in this thread
Perhaps when you have had the chance to warm up, have a brew and catch your breath. with your feet up
Then read & absorbed this entire thread & the links contained within
You can advise what PlusNet will do in respect of the ongoing known issue(s) the TG582n has & what they will do to get them rectified once & for all ?Huh

Re: What would cause TG582n to to lose WiFi on all devices at the same time

As a few people in this thread are saying the same, and IIRC there was a previous thread on a similar topic, I've flagged it up for our hardware people to take a look at.

Re: What would cause TG582n to to lose WiFi on all devices at the same time

Dear PlusNet now that I am asking, will you be so kind & please send me a link to the default factory Stock firmware without your branding on it,
to rule out any conflicts in code that could potentially cause issue(s)
Whilst I wait the 3rd TG582n router as you do not supply alternative make(s) / model(s)
I promise to use it for sensible testing to destruction as in Beta testing etc Smiley
Thank you Chris
I am not sure if the thread you remember is the 1 where Graham tested several faulty routers in his basement, if so there is a link to it within this thread Smiley
Much appreciated  Smiley

That wifi issue was entirely due to the wireless adapter / driver on that computer being unable to handle the long default network name. It was not a problem with the 582n.

That's because I didn't need to since I already have another router that works better, and which doesn't run ridiculously overcomplicated technicolor firmware.

There isn't really default factory generic technicolor firmware, the vast majority of technicolor routers are tailor made for a particular ISP, so come with appropriately customised firmware. But you might be able to find some older demo versions of 10.2 firmware from when the 10.2 firmware was being tested. I've got:
[tt]PN FTTC R10.2.5.2 DEMO 20130510 1542.bin
PN FTTC R10.2.5.2 EO.bin
PN FTTC R10.2.5.2 FO.bin
PN TG582n R10.2.2.B DEMO 2012 12 19 1315.bin
PN TG582n R10.2.2.B EH.bin[/tt]
I compare the 10.2.2.B DEMO and 10.2.2.B EH, IIRC they were pretty much identical apart from the removal of the word demo and adding some date when it was accepted buried somewhere.

Re: What would cause TG582n to to lose WiFi on all devices at the same time

Something is niggling at me making me suspect that an earlier firmware will not solve the issue(s),
Nevertheless that still did not 100% conclusively rule your TG582n out of the running,
I would liked to have seen you take the TG582n through the 10.2.2.B Firmware for 100% testing although
I suspect the results may of not been to did-similar to the 8.44.J Firmware
I guess we will never know now Sad

Re: What would cause TG582n to to lose WiFi on all devices at the same time

Right, there's a lot of information in this thread and to be honest I've got confused just reading through it. So can we skip back to the start and get some simple information to see what's going on..
For anyone having this specific issue (wifi and/or ethernet dropping on all LAN devices) can you let me know:
- Which firmware are you using?
- How many devices do you have connected on wired and wireless?
- Do any of these have static internal IP addresses?
- Have you ran any commands via CLI on the router?
- Have you tested a different router and did that work without issue?

Re: What would cause TG582n to to lose WiFi on all devices at the same time

OK Chris.
1.. Firmware 10.2.2.B, upgraded from 8.4.4.J
2.. 6 devices, 3 Wired. 3 wireless.
3.. None have static IPs.
4.. Disabled all power management features via CLI.  Used the DNLA fix via CLI to make my SKY+HD box work with the SKY+ app.
5.. Have a Billion Bipac 7300n. Will be installing this week.
Will provide the Date of manufacture when I get home.  Personally I feel there are some serious issues within the firmware of this Router.
Maybe better to start a new thread for this and make it sticky???
Serial number starts 1226 so it was manufactured june 25th July 1st 2012. I think I ordered it sometime January 2013

-What steps do you take to resolve the issue (even if it is a temporary fix)
-Does the TG582n have any other issues that you have experienced
-Are there any obstruction IE: Walls etc

1. Firmware 10.2.2.B EH as supplied out of the box
2. Typically anywhere between 3 - 10 Devices connected (Does not matter how many is connected at any one time when connection drops)
3. All WiFi devices are always assigned Static IP addresses and are named accordingly
4. Assigned OpenDNS servers & flushed PlusNets DNS servers for testing, Disabled all power management features (except USB as it is set to on by default and can not be disabled via standard Telnet commands, enabled = reduce dead spots in the wireless coverage,
5. Tested with a different TG582n with same results
6. Serial Number 1st 4 digits, 1st TG582n 1324, 2ns TG582n 1330
7. Typically turning Off / On the TG582n's onboard WiFi Button resolves the WiFi outage
8. It suffers from ethernet dropout at the same time & separately, and the above fix in 7 sometimes works (although on some occasions switching Off / On the little black onboard button restores connectivity
9. Does not matter if the devices are in the same room and or within a couple of feet from the Routers

I have added a couple more answers to a couple more questions In Bold I feel should be asked (No offence to Chris as he is trying, even though he has a fair amount of workload)
@Penfold
Great suggestion to have a sticky Smiley
The only other difference I can initially see so far between the 2 TG582n's is the product code
Quote

Product Name: TG582n
Serial Number: CPXxXxXxXxX
Software Release: 10.2.2.B
Software Variant: EH
Boot Loader Version: 1.0.5
Product Code: Serial Number 1324 - 3701603B, Serial Number 1330 - 3701603C
Board Name: DANT-T

Re: What would cause TG582n to to lose WiFi on all devices at the same time

Undecided if we could be getting anywhere however
Approximately 20 minutes ago, I went to use my phablet & noticed the WiFi icon greyed out, checked my phone and no WiFi icon means they are not connected yet again)
Could not tell you how long they had been like it as Ethernet is not affected
Upon looking in the logs, I see an entry for 02:02 AM

Therefore making me now start to think if it could be caused by some sort of attack like a DDos, Smurf attack etc & the TG582n is either being over cautious or can not handle the attack(s) and shuts down the connectivity.
In which case the TG582n is doing its job & prevents these attack(s) from getting through to the devices on the network

I did not have to look far to find another thread started on « on October 26, 2012, 00:15:12 » with the same / similar issues that was also not resolved by the time it got to 13 pages in length and looked like the last main post prior to the recent bump was on « Reply #197 on October 02, 2013, 18:55:20 »
That is an equivalent of a whole Year without so much as a resolution in sight
What does PlusNet have to say for knowing of their shoddy Routers for far too long and not even attempted to fix & or replace with better make(s) / model(s) ?Huh
It also appears that does not matter if the TG582n is on the FTTC or ADSL, Old or Newest Firmware

Re: What would cause TG582n to to lose WiFi on all devices at the same time

@jelv
In the nicest possible voice
If you were a multimillion £££ company spending X amount of millions per annum to a company that is supplying inferior goods that you supply to your end users, would you not want to get to the bottom of where & why the money is being wasted.
Fact
Known issues for extensive long period of time, resulting in end users, having to complain, resulting in them not using the product that is supplied = waste of money & valued support, that could be utilised in other areas.
IE: Upgrading outdated call centre software, training more staff = less people on benefits.
Would you not seek to minimise complaints for 1 item that is the root cause of many a complaint ??
Please forgive me & the others for attempting to help troubleshoot these known issue(s) that is clearly not affecting yourself, however is clearly affecting myself and others for which we are prepared to take the time trouble & effort to help feedback our issue(s) & findings.

Re: What would cause TG582n to to lose WiFi on all devices at the same time

It's not affecting 99% of users, and only affects a tiny minority who have issues with the router.
Clearly it is not a waste of money as far as Plusnet are concerned - it allows them to deliver a service that 100,000's are happy with at the keenest price.
If the issues were as widespread as you are trying to imply they would have done something long before now.

Re: What would cause TG582n to to lose WiFi on all devices at the same time

So you like to see the waste of money going down the drain then ?Huh
You have not got access to PN's figures so can not logically make that statement
My statements & findings are based on TG582n's that are not in use for a variety of reasons IE: reports on these very forums that members will not be using theirs, the vast amount I have seen on some famous auction websites over the past couple of years, that are not in use, people already have a preferred router they want to use resulting in their supplied TG582n still boxed gathering dust.
Thus increasing the amount that are not tested & if any issue(s) are being left unreported
We are talking about the exact same Make / Model Router from the same Manufacturer that is supplied to several ISP's country wide & possible to other countries.
