What speed am i capable of? info included

Am just coming upto my first 10 days with Pn, was just wondering what type of speeds i can be looking forward to as i'm around 300kbs or less.

Re: What speed am i capable of? info included

http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php says 8Mb but I think your SN Margin is a bit high?  Do you have a noisy line by any chance?
/edit - my bad, I read it back to front!  It's 5,536kbps not 8Mb >.<  Lucky Oldjim was around Cheesy

Re: What speed am i capable of? info included

As your noise margin is showing as 1dB which is very low and your errors seem high you aren't going to get higher speeds unless you have a fixable wiring problem.
If you connect to the test socket does the sync speed increase

This is from the test socket, the other connection was from a extension my mate hardwired in thats about 6m long.
Thanks for your replys

If that's still bad would it have anything todo with a old line?
Only ask as i actually paid the £49.99 for a new line but when the bt engineer came to install it he said there was no piont as there was allready a working line here and then left.

Re: What speed am i capable of? info included

A new line would only reconnect the existing wires - so no help there
The speed is a bit lower with a much better noise margin so at first glance there doesn't seem much point in looking at your internal wiring although the fact that your noise margin dropped from the 6dB default to 1dB would indicate a noisy line which you can do very little about.
If you can resync at the test socket during daylight hours it will show if there is much improvement. using it but I suspect not.

Re: What speed am i capable of? info included

That's abit of a bummer, was hoping for at least 4mb connextion  Cry
Can i get adsl2+ as i see using samknows it says the following.
BT ADSL broadband availability
You are connected to the Nuneaton telephone exchange.
ADSL is available in your area
Your exchange is also enabled for ADSL Max services
Your exchange is also enabled for ADSL2+ services
According to BT Wholesale, your phone line should be able to support
up to 2Mbps via ADSL
7Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max
13Mbps or greater via ADSL2+
Standard ADSL RAG results
You can receive 2Mbps ADSL
You can receive 1Mbps ADSL
You can receive 512kbps ADSL
You can receive 256kbps ADSL

Re: What speed am i capable of? info included

You are already on ADSL2. It would be ADSL2+ but the connection will have dropped back to ADSL2 because the higher frequencies used by ADSL2+ did not contribute any bandwidth.
With an downstream attenuation of 46.5dB the maximum sync speed you are likely to see is around 6Mbps. Kitz reckons that is for a line length of 3.4km, say 2.4km from the exchange. Is that about right?

Re: What speed am i capable of? info included

Well to my local exchange its around 2.9km/1.8m by road.
Well i'm gutted my speed is so slow considering i used to live further away and was getting nearly 5mb from bt.
Can't my line speed be increased? It shows as 2500, was 3000, have'nt had any drop outs of loss of signal, have rebooted a few times to get a better sync speed though, i was on about 350 with a line speed of 3000, all the time now im stuck at 270kbs download speed, it's just not fast enough for my needs :(, can't even watch bbc i player in had , only really got the internet for my 3dtv and its online apps but sadly i'm living a life of constant buffering, is'nt there anything that can be done if i pump some more money into it?

Re: What speed am i capable of? info included

With your attenuation I would expect the higher ADSL2+ frequencies to contribute something giving an increased sync speed. That they don't suggests to me there could be a fault on your line. Testing from the test socket eliminates internal wiring, but you need to try a different filter and router to eliminate those.
Once your 10 day training period is complete I suggest raising a speed fault at http://faults.plus.net/ and working through the questions.
