Within the PlusNet business all staff have a responsibility to understand our customer's wants and needs; we all need to know the sorts of things that are out there "on the Internet"; the things that our customers ARE using and the things that our customers WILL BE using.
Why?
Because we need to be in a position to provide people with an Internet service that caters for and is suitable for their various and ever evolving demands.
So, I posed the question to staff of "how much do you know about the Internet" and followed it with the list of names you are about to see. The response was mixed; some knew them all, some knew some; some were in the middle somewhere.
I want to ask the same question of you, the customer; how many of these names are you familiar with?
Bebo
Last.fm
Digg
Techcrunch
Engadget
PirateBay
Newzbin
Blogger
Stumbleupon
Flickr
Joost
YouTube
Techcrunch
Del.icio.us

In an ideal world everyone within the PlusNet business would all know what all this stuff meant; the thing is, we NEED to know what it all means because our customers and the next generation of customers understand perfectly what they want from the Internet (even if some of the time they don't actually realise it). People's Internet habits are continually evolving and we, as an Internet Service Provider, need to be bang up to date with what's going on "out there".
Can it ever be right that the customer knows more than the supplier of a product?
So, if there's anything on here that you don't understand, who is going to tell you what all this stuff means?
You are. Remember...in 2007 information is free.
We all have a responsibility for our own educational development. None of this stuff can be spoon-fed; this is the stuff that I'm encouraging the PlusNet staff to go out there and research, find out what interests them, discuss and understand. People may not need or want to understand it to the level of some people in the PlusNet business, but it may be the difference between understanding a customer's problem, recommending a more appropriate product, or giving a customer the quality of service they expect; or, more selfishly, it may be the difference between someone getting their next promotion or that other job they always wanted; it's in everyone's own hands.
So, going back to what I said right at the top, what's your browser homepage?
This is mine...
http://flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=530306874&size=o
Have a look; it gives me a dashboard view of everything I need; the information I need comes to me, instead of me having to go out and get it. What's yours?
It would be a valuable insight for me to know how much of the above you already know, and also, how much of the above you'd like to know about...
There's no right and there's no wrong. Just information.

With this post you are so right, there is an amazing amount of information out there and at times it is hard to keep up. Strangely enough I have logins for most of the services on your list but although I have probably used them at some time or other I am stumped at some of the terms in your second list.
Like you I like everything at my fingertips, I have had a "my msn page" a "My yahoo page" I have even made my own webpage displayed as my desktop with all my favourite content. I have been a customer for many years now and always hoped that one day we would see a "My Plusnet" page.
A page within our Plusnet account that customers and your staff could configure anyway they want with all their favourite content coming together in one place just like your homepage. Surly development could be made in this area.
On a lighter note, where the hell is Thiruvananthapuram

By the way, Thiruvananthapuram is in India, in the southern state of Kerala. I just got back from a 2 week working trip there.

The key thing is to make the information come to you...
There are many different ways to do this; iGoogle, RSS feeds, personal HTML pages, Pageflakes etc etc.
