Re: Weeks of problems and IGNORED by plusnet on open ticket! FED UP!

@joseph1 sorry to hear it didn't work Sad

A quick look around gives the impression it is/was a known issue - related to Kaspersky and not actually a fault with a BT supplied router (I've mentioned BT as they also use the 192.168.1.254 address to access the hub user interface) - see this this link for an example

No idea if such a facility exists, but maybe adding the router ip address to a ignore/whitelist within the Kaspersky settings?

Other than that, apart from contacting Kaspersky's customer support, I really can't assist you further Sad

@DS  OK, thanks. I am on a free kaspersky so it may not be good support.

My other question was:

As long as the https on my router is not allowing a breach except when viewing the actual page, I don't think it is a problem to me. However, is it a 24/7 security risk as it doesn't have the https?

Re: Weeks of problems and IGNORED by plusnet on open ticket! FED UP!

Ah, I see. If you're running windows then I now suggest using Microsofts own AV offerings. From personal experience it isn't resource hungry-  as some of the other free ones can be <coughs> BTNP+.

To answer the other Q, I'd not be concerned with what you're seeing. No, I wouldn't have thought it was a security risk. I've always used isp supplied routers, right back to the BTHH2, 3, 4 and 5, the $ky issued one (can't remember what it's called) and the rebadged BTHH5 aka the PNH1.

I really do think it's a Kaspersky issue - their paying users may be flagging this and updates from them may make this issue disappear. I did read something earlier whereby this flagging of routers went when the user fully uninstalled Kaspersky so it must be at their end. No others (that I've heard of) flag the router as insecure.....

A lot of websites now use secure means (https) as IIRC Firefox pushed an update out a while back that alerted the end user if the site was using http - could be wrong on that, but they did something lol!

Re: Weeks of problems and IGNORED by plusnet on open ticket! FED UP!

I managed to put it in "ignore" list and it has not returned.

However, my last post showed a drop and the reduced noise ratio and increased d/l speed.

Here is one  today, 22 feb 0910

6 - Uptime: 1 days 03:58:44
7 - Data rate: 944/8458
8 - Maximum data rate: 1356/8776
9 - Noise margin: 6.1/6.3
10 - Line attenuation: 22.2/40.5

Still showing the reduced noise margin.

Has anything been changed by PN to cause this change? It had been so stable almost 6 days.

Thanks

Hi there, there's only been a single drop in the past week that we'd not be able to attribute a specific cause to so I'd not worry about that.

Re: Weeks of problems and IGNORED by plusnet on open ticket! FED UP!

Latest router stats, 1812 on 27 Feb:

6 - Uptime: 6 days 13:05:54
7 - Data rate: 944/8458
8 - Maximum data rate: 1356/8420
9 - Noise margin: 6.3/5.8
10 - Line attenuation: 22.2/40.5

This seems about what it was at the beginning of my fault. However, no recent drops in wifi. Fingers crossed fault is cleared.

It remains a mystery, as it was still apparent even after BT/OR did their work. It has gradually lessened in dropouts since then.

Fingers crossed!

Thank you to everyone for your assistance.

Re: Weeks of problems and IGNORED by plusnet on open ticket! FED UP!

Thanks for getting back to us.

Apart from seeing those two drops, our tests aren't showing any issues or cause for this.

I'd recommend keeping an eye on things and if the drops increase, I'd report a fault to us at http://faults.plus.net

Let us know how it goes.

OK, thanks.

Keeping fingers crossed as it has been excellent last 14 days.

Let us hope it is just a glitch.

Thanks
