Web cache

A couple of times recently when a website has shown my IP address for security reasons (on sites that have problems with fraud on payments I guess) or on some download sites I have been shown an IP that isn't mine.
Didn't really think much of it but just now the problem was that I was trying to get a file from depositfiles.com and when i clicked the download link it told me that my IP address was different than the IP that the file was designated for. I guess they have this check to make sure people don't hand out the file download link so you have to go through the pages of ads etc.
At this point I decided to lookup what the IP was that I'd apparently connected to the main page with and it turns out it's pcl-iwfcache04.plus.net
I was kind of surprised by this because It's never been mentioned that plus net use a webcache after they tried it and it didn't work out several years ago. Has anyone had any information about this because I've not been made aware that plus net have decided to bring back the webcache and I'm a little annoyed that they've decided to do this under the radar

Not all of plusnet accounts have a static ip address you may have a Dynamic ip address

Are you able to provide the URL's you tried to visit when you received this IP?
If you read http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,60045.msg488934.html#msg488934 it should give some sort of information as to why you are seeing that ip address.

I do have a static IP on this account, but even someone on a dynamic IP would never have a webcache rdns such as pcl-iwfcache04.plus.net anyway

The only one I can remember off the top of my head at the moment is depositfiles.com and I don't have the exact link anymore although I could probably find it again if you need it to test anything out. I guess it's been added to the suspect list because it's a public sharing site like rapidshare.
Because of the way depositfiles works you can't get any files from them on a plusnet connection as the first connection to their servers goes through the IWF cache and the actual link to the file is direct so the IPs don't match.
I do have a way around the problem as I run a squid proxy on a dedibox I have exactly for when problems like this arise (and to also get around the file limit per IP on rapidshare  ) so I guess I'll just have to remember to go through the proxy if I need to use deposit files like I do when I use rapidshare.
As soon as you mentioned the iwf cache I did recall reading about it when it was set up but it had completely slipped my mind when I made the topic. It also made me remember when I'd first seen the IP of the IWF cache. Someone was spamming a tinyurl link on IRC and it turned out to be the address of a child pornography website that had been closed down by the FBI and it was logging all IPs that requested the page so it would make sense that the site would be in the IWF suspect list. I think the only other time I've seen it was on rapidshare as mentioned in the link you provided it so I guess it's working as intended.
