Very strange of ADSL2+

My line and my mother line is very strange on different speed but we both on same road, same telephone exchange. My house is only a minute walk to my mum house.
My Line
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 17499 kbps 1279 kbps
Line Attenuation 32.5 db 17.7 db
Noise Margin 3.1 db 7.1 db
My Mum Line
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 11900 kbps 864 kbps
Line Attenuation 30.0 db 9.0 db
Noise Margin 6.0 db 14.0 db
I cannot understand why my mum's line is very poor compare to my line ? Any suggest ?
Is there any chance to reset SNR to try lower SNR at 3.1dB on my mum's line as I do feel that she should have more sync rate than me because of her line attenunation is 2.5dB lower than mine!

Re: Very strange of ADSL2+

maybe her router cant hold the signal at SNR level of 3?  Attenuation may be better, but perhaps its more "noisy"?

Re: Very strange of ADSL2+

yeah her router is very poor one! Netgear DG834 (very old) as mine is brand new Netgear DGND3700 (High Performance) as it can hold my line at 1dB SNR (with tweak) on it but 3dB default is better because of less errors on the line.
I was thinking of getting my new router next month http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopDetail.asp?ProductID=8074 and my mum can have my Netgear DGND3700 high performance router and threw away old Netgear DG834.

I presume you have bunged your mothers router in the test socket to verify that her internal phone wiring is not having an adverse effect?

Re: Very strange of ADSL2+

It already did in the test socket on the master socket, her house only got one BT socket (master socket) in the hallway. My house had 5 x BT sockets (one is master socket in the hallway)

Re: Very strange of ADSL2+

Hi,
before you change your router out why not, since you have access to two different routers
at the moment swap between your and your moms router and see what happens to the
performance on each line, just a thought  Wink

Re: Very strange of ADSL2+

I had try my router on her line, it went up 3Meg extra from 11900k to 15378k and the snr is the same 6dB. So, it deffo a rubbish Netgear that she got DG834. I will order Billion 7800N and once it arrive, then my mum can have my Netgear DGND3700 (High Performance)
Thanks dvvrue95 for pointed me to try different router.
