Re: Very high FEC errors, even on test socket?

Thanks for the pointer. I don't believe I've noticed any lights on 24/7, my little block of flats has normal streetlights but the roads around have been updated with LED streetlights. That said there's probably a mile or so between me and Sharrow exchange, also I'll have a look where the cabinet is for my block. It's something I'd never have thought of.
I've been waiting for fibre but that was original July-December and now November-December....can't see it happening this year 😕

Ah, it was a wild shot in the dark really.
Anyway I don't see any reason why the banding can't be removed now that you've sorted your wiring as long as you haven't got silly errors, it should go a touch faster. Post up the latest stats and we'll see what they are doing.

Re: Very high FEC errors, even on test socket?

Here's from the router...it's connected even faster!!
Uptime:	0 days, 6:24:02
DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.5
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,170 / 11,130
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 81.82 / 1.38
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.7 / 0.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 21.5 / 41.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 5.9 / 4.2
System Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ----
Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote): BDCM / IFTN
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 9 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 1 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): -
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 234 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 701 / 1,506,930
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 31 / 484
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 21 / 10,858

Amazing how bad some wiring can be!! That said, several years ago I was with O2, initially conneced and got 5Mbps when they estimated 11Mbps.....disconnected all extensions from the master socket and it went to 11Mbps.
Phone exchange:
    SHARROW
Estimated line speed:
    5Mb (This may vary between 4.5Mb and 6.5Mb) - Checked on 2014-10-10 10:50:11
Current line speed:
    9.8 Mb

Re: Very high FEC errors, even on test socket?

Well the banding has obviously gone, monitor the stats for a couple of days and post them, see how the errors go.

Re: Very high FEC errors, even on test socket?

Cheers, will do. It's nice to have my broadband connection at home faster than the 3G connection (yep not even 4G) I was getting on my mobile phone again Wink

Yes, the banding was removed Smiley
I'm glad your getting decent speeds again. Please post back if anything changes.

Re: Very high FEC errors, even on test socket?

Thanks Tony. It's made me happy seeing download speeds in the browser of 1.1MBps compared to <600KBps last week Smiley
There are some seriously shoddy telephone wiring jobs happening evening in modern flats!
My landlord/landlady are happy with me sorting it too.
