Very Very Slow connection

Hi,
Sorry to say Ive had a pretty un-reliable service so far with plus-net,(joined approx oct 2010), started out fairly slow back then, ive maybe at most had 2 months of a fairly decent reliable connecton until the last few days which has been far worse. Now im getting no more than 500kbps on various speed test servers. It does not make a difference what time of day either, im also getting timed-out sessions ssl broken script errors etc.
Ive raised the issue online last night and apparently its being looked into, im yet to hear anything.Tried everything suggested other than another router as i dont have a spare one.
02 my last isp was fine, getting 5meg +
p.s My router is a thomson TG585v8
Id appreciate an update as to how the investigation into my slow net speed issue is going?as i cant take these dial up speeds for much longer..thanks.

Strange that ping and jitter are excellent^^
Sad
Ive had many isp's at my current address and never such a poor connection, please dont let me down PlusNet.

Re: Very Very Slow connection

Unless your router isn't reporting correctly the problem is almost  the certainly the very high number of errors
Is it possible try try the test socket - best during daylight hours to get a better sync rate

Re: Very Very Slow connection

Thanks for the reply oldjim,
I am now connected via test socket, found one of the wires within socket disconnected form number 4 point...ive read however this is normal and 4 is redundant.
No change in speed after connection to test, i will leave it connected until probem resolved.

Re: Very Very Slow connection

If by "no change in speed" you mean the results from a speedtest, then that is to be expected. The important information is the sync speed; did that change (possibly it wouldn't if your connection is banded)?
Posting your router stats provides information that helps other forum users to provide comments that might help.
It's OK if wire 4 is disconnected, best if it tucked neatly out of the way.

Re: Very Very Slow connection

1. Is you phone line clear with no background noise?
2. How do you connect to your router, wired or wireless?

HI jamz,
I'll take a look for you, it does seem banded. A brief explanation of banding can be seen here.

Re: Very Very Slow connection

Hi jamz,
Just one drop since you put it into the test socket. I'll check again over the weekend and see how stable it is. If it is solid by Monday I could look at getting the banding lifted.

Hi Jelv,
1.Yes the line seems clear
2.My router is wired to the pc.

Thanks for the help JoJo i can see form the graph at just how much better/stable it seems after switching to test socket.
I will take a look at the banding explanation after typing this, thanks  Wink

Re: Very Very Slow connection

Seems strange to me that you never had these issues when with O2, I assume you were connected to the same socket?
I suspect because O2 were LLU you got the speed you sync'ed at instead of suffering from BT IP profiles which you get with a NON LLU ISP such as plusnet.
Just a thought.

Re: Very Very Slow connection

Yes i was connected to same socket i agree it seems strange, 02's speed was fine but id be lying if i were to say it was 100% reliable all of the time as i would get the odd disconnection. The drops/disconnections were never so frequent that i ever felt the need to complain, but maybe this was a sign of things starting to go wrong?who knows.  Undecided
--------------------------------------
Ok well i read the explanation of banding and my understanding of it is:-  Due to the amount of drops and faults with my equipment/line my connection is limited to 288-576kbps..'ouch'!, but since swapping to the test socket its become more stable and if it stays that way over the weekend the banding can be lifted?
Well this may seem a daft question but if plugging into the test socket has resolved my problem this means i cant swap it back and the wires will remain exposed?,do i need a new socket or to get it repaired now? Huh

Re: Very Very Slow connection

If you feel that the connection is more stable, / better, whilst connected to the Master Socket ( Test socket).... then it would be advisable to leave it connected for at least the next three days... this should bring up your profile (possibly) and give some more indication as to the causes of your problems.... I would also suggest you run the BT speedtester at least twice a day (one mid morning and one later in the day (say 5 pm ish)..... the results you can post on here to assist .... but more importantly, the results will be logged by BT and they have a lot more "background info" that you do not see on screen to help in diagnosing problems.
