Hi,
can anyone confirm what exactly is included under the heading WEB in VMBU. Is this just HTTP/HTTPS traffic or anything else?
We are I suspect relatively heavy internet users, which is why I am on the Broadband Premier Option 3 contract, We have 4 people in the house who use the web on a daily basis, but even so it feels like the numbers are still pretty high. For example in the current billing period it shows our usage as 22.31 GB, with 16.3 during peak (4pm-midnight). And on one particular day it showed 6.5 GB of peak usage, that's not far short of 1GB/hour?
BTW as an aside, I currently have a call open with PlusNet as my broadband phone usages shows as 2.86 GB, for what the phone control panel shows as about 8 minutes of calls out and 14 minutes of calls in
Regards
David

Hi there,
It's possible for traffic to be misidentified as VOIP or Web, usually traffic using http or VOIP ports. Our traffic management system identifies traffic using the signature and the port used.
What sort of apps do you use? Some on-demand TV services and such like use a p2p type system, so it's possible these are running in the background and uploading while you're unaware.
There are a few bandwidth monitoring apps around, but you often have to run them per machine and then combine the data to get an accurae picture of your usage.

you could give this usage monitor a try. it will record which programs are using what and the total amount.
you will need to install it on all pc's in the house and add the total amount of usage up your self

So is there any specific info provided by PlusNet on this anywhere eg a list of ports or protocols mapped to each category in VMBU?
In terms of monitoring software, I'm looking for something cross platform, for now I've installed MRTG on my Mac OS X Server, which will at least tell me which nodes are generating what volume. Anyone got an suggestions as to anything I could use to dig into the traffic types?
Thanks & Regards
David
