Upstream gradually getting a bit slower with each resync - any explanation?

Here's an odd thing. I was on the recent DLM trial and I've now got a fixed profile (interleaving off, SNR 6 both ways). Variations in sync speed are mainly determined by when the resync happens - faster in daytime, slower at night. I've been pretty happy with this, as I don't get the big swings associated with the DLM.
Usually, until recently, there's no variation in my upstream sync speed. It's normally 816 if interleaving is off (and it was a bit slower before and during the trial when interleaving was on). Since the end of March, though, after a resync it seems to have been going gradually down - not with every resync but maybe every second or third one. Each time, the speed drops by exactly 8kb/s. So I've gone from 816 to 808, then 800 and now (following what seemed to be a brief power interruption on the whole line this evening) 792. Upstream SNR is 5, as it always is.
I'm not (yet!) too worried about this, but is there an explanation?
