Upgraded to ADSL2 but poor speed

Hi
I had been having problems in the last 2 weeks with slow speeds on adsl. My line profile had ben locked to 2500. This got raised to 7000 but the speeds were only 4megs. Prior to this I was getting on average 7 megs as I only live 200yds from exchange,
Plusnet upgraded me to adsl2 yesterday and speeds were worse but this morning i was getting 17.4megs! happy days, however it has now dropped to to 2 megs!.
Looking at my line stats there seems to be a lot of crc errors. can someone look at this and tell me if these stats are normal?
Thanks

Re: Upgraded to ADSL2 but poor speed

I assume that the FEC and CRC errors are the wrong way round but they are horrible - if they aren't the wrong way round something is really crippling your signal
Can you run the BT Speedtest and see what this says https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed

Re: Upgraded to ADSL2 but poor speed

I cant actually run the btspeedtester just now as it wants to direct me to test 3 using the speedtest login name which my router BT Home Hub 2 won't allow me to do. From memeory my previous tests said line profile 20.6 and downstream 23.9 I think
Hope this helps
The errors are in the correct order!

Re: Upgraded to ADSL2 but poor speed

It should.
You would need to put in any old password I believe as that is ignored by the site.
What does the Plusnet link give
Regarding errors - either it is incorrect reporting or something is seriously wrong.
If you do the quiet line test - dial 17070 option 2 is there any noise

Re: Upgraded to ADSL2 but poor speed

Whatever was the cause it seems to have gone
I suspect that the very high number of errors was killing your connection
Did you resync or reboot the router before the latest test
By the way - the master socket isn't the test socket which you get to by unscrewing the lower half of the master socket

Re: Upgraded to ADSL2 but poor speed

Oldjim & DataDave,
I wouldn't trust the HEC & CRC error reporting from the HomeHub 2. In my experience it often misreports the figures, the counters start at a very large number after a reboot rather than zero. Here are my FEC errors just after a reboot.
FEC Errors (Down/Up) 0 / 4294967208
Sometimes a router reboot will correctly reset the counters to zero. If I remember correctly it only affects the Up stastistics, the down stastistics are reported correctly.
Your down errors look reasonable to me. I suggest you raise a ticket with Plusnet and then they will be able to look at the line stats in more detail.
Regards, David
