Re: Unlimited fibre speed

It's important to try that to rule out the lower speeds being due to the wireless signal.
If it is due to the wireless signal, there are tweaks that can be done to improve it.

Re: Unlimited fibre speed

what sort of wire will I need ideally to do this as the distance from the router/modem to the PC is about 8 meters.( and yes before I get someone saying "a long one" i know).
I can test the wired connection once I have finished work.
I mean dont get me wrong 18mbps is far better than the 3mbps I was getting yesterday. I am just not sure how long it takes the fiber connection to reach the optimum speed after install(which was 1pm yesterday).
Maybe I am trying to run before I can walk but according to chris from plusnet im connected at  65mb.

Needs to be a wired test to get accurate results , too many factors can affect wireless speeds.

Just ran a BTW test with a wired connection
Download speed(mbps) 60.04
Upload speed(mbps) 11.65
Ping Latency(ms) 40.50
Is there any way to improve my wireless connection from
Download speed(mbps) -17.97
Upload Speed(Mbps) - 12.38
Ping Latency(ms) - 45.38
Thanks

Re: Unlimited fibre speed

Based on my stats posted above, what can I do to increase my wireless connection to get somewhere close to my wired connection?

Re: Unlimited fibre speed

As above - what are you using as your wireless device for doing the speedtest ?
On my laptop I get between 28 and 40Mb on wireless, the wife's laptop gets 36-42Mb and my wired connection gets 65Mb speed tests.
My older laptop on Wireless "G" would struggle to get 20Mb/s

Re: Unlimited fibre speed

Home PC - Windows 8.1 Asus Computer. Only 6 months old so would imagine it has a decent wireless capabilities.
Have a Nexus 7 tablet I could try it on and PS4 also which I guess I could try it on.
Are your wireless devices 803.11n capable? - Jelv
Im not that technically savvy so how would I go about checking if my devices are 803.11n capable?
Thanks

Re: Unlimited fibre speed

Hi Kevrob,
Yes I'd say im getting fiber as where I live, you only get about 3mbps on adsl broadband.
SO with a 60mbps wired and a 18mbps wireless I would say its definalty fibre

Re: Unlimited fibre speed

@ kevrob007 - Not sure what that has to do with anything. That is like me saying, my Fiat Punto's broken down so I'm going to take it to the Ferrari dealer because they are a subsidiary of Fiat.

Re: Unlimited fibre speed

Hi IvanC86,
First thing I'd recommend doing is checking the wireless channels where you use the wireless and then changing the channel on your router to the one least congested. You can get wireless scanning apps for most smartphones, just have a look in the relevant app store (assuming you have access to a smartphone), if not you'll likely be able to get one for a PC or Mac.
There's details on how to do that, along with some other tips, on our support pages here: http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/wireless_broadband/wireless_signal.shtml
Hope that helps.
