Problem: my main computer is connected to the router via ethernet cable and does not have a wireless option. The test socket I believe I have is some way away from where this computer is setup. I do have a laptop, however, and could consider setting that up so the router could be plugged in to the test socket.....but I would like to know for how long you would want me to stay connected in this way, please

If you were to plug into the test socket we could run a test and tell straight away whether there was any improvement. I'd put money on it being the extension though, they can be notorious!

Uptime: 0 days, 0:05:43
DSL Type: G.992.3 annex A
Maximum Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 864 / 3,496
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 443 / 3,448
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/MB]: 772.00 / 1.06
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.5 / 17.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 29.5 / 51.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 21.0 / 9.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / IFTN
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 64 / 1
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 14 / 1
And these readings appear to be even worse!
Please can you advise for how long the 'test' should run? There are cables all over the place at the moment and it's a bit of a mess.

If it's not like the one in the picture then it's not the test socket. If you don't have one of them then you need to plug into the master socket with all other equipment unplugged. The master socket will be the one where the line enters the property. If that's not the case then I'd put it back where you had it and wait for the ip profile to lift.

Initially I probably had my phone base station too close to the router; I've moved them further apart now and wonder if that will make a difference.
Attached are a couple of pictures that may help clarify whether or not it is a test socket.

How about I leave as is for the weekend to see if the uptime position improves compared with all the resets I've seen over the last week/10 days?
All the best

Yes, from your pictures you are definitely in the test socket. From the connection logs below can you tell me whether any of the drops were intentional? If not I would certainly raise a fault. Are you able to try a different router?

I don't think you attached or enclosed the connection logs you refer to, but there have not been any intentional drops.
Yes I can try a different router (Thompson Gateway to Netgear) which I will do later this evening or tomorrow. Meanwhile my linespeed suddenly went up by 20% this morning; I have had the longest uptime since I started this post, currently 1 day 2 hours & 48 minutes! Previously it was resetting well within a 24-hour period and for no apparent reason.
A BT Speedtester test I've just undertaken also shows an increase in my IP profile from 2500 Kbps (download speed 2130) on the 14th to 3,000Kbps and a speed of 3106.
In view of the increase in my linespeed would it make sense to leave this in abeyance for now, rather than raising a fault at this stage?

Why not fix a BT-i plate it’s also called BT accelerator too it should increase your download speed its worth a try for less than £10. You can fit it to your master socket
Its only useful if you have any extension sockets in your house.
It’s also reduces your HEC CRC etc. mine still zero and it’s been connected for over 358:11:25
There’s no wiring involved at all

Sorry forgot to post the logs, definitely will this time. Can you tell me of these disconnections which are intentional.

The one today, whilst I changed Routers. Not one of the others was intentional.
Having swapped Routers, disconnected the bellwire and adjusted the positioning of the telephone base unit I am well pleased at the moment with speeds:
(Netgear stats)
DownStream Connection Speed 4371 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 439 kbps
And a speed test is showing 2732kbps/375kbps.
If they all stay at around this level I shall be well pleased; as I said before, shall we let sleeping dogs lie for a few days just to see what happens?

Your profile is now 3000 and from your sync it could rise to 3500, so as long as there aren't lots of disconnections this should go up soon.
