Re: Transfer to 21C Network

Apart from what seems like a 12dB Target SNRM which you need to put up with for now, so far so good.
Do you know if any of your neighbours do anything on a Friday evening and Saturday evening that they don't do the rest of the week?

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

Spoken to a few neighbours and none can state to doing anything different or suffering any problems with their internet. One neighbour had a problem with her phone line had BTOR do a botch up job as usual but otherwise no problems. I've added the latest stats and some graphs.

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

That's a lot of Bitswaps for this time of day - but looking at the stats at least the error rates are low at present, but then I would expect that with a 12dB Target SNRM.
You definitely can't hear any audible crackling or other noises on the line when using the phone?

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

I'm 50 years old and spent 25 years as an engineer in the merchant navy, so despite using ear defenders there's quite possibly some hearing damage lol Anyway just done a 17070 quiet line test and all I can hear is a constant hiss/hum........ no crackling of any kind.

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

Something weird has just happened in the last few hours, looking at the stats the dsl dropped about 16:10hrs, then all hell let loose on the errors. Nothing was switched on or off here so no idea what happened, in fact I hadn't even noticed the dsl had disconnected until doing a check just now :(. Setting the dsl disconnect aside for the moment, could this be a gateway problem. I noticed there was a problem with one of PN's gateways over the weekend...... coincidence maybe or something to look at.

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

Gateway problems won't affect CRC errors, Noise Margins or sync, or anything related to sync.
Were you on pcl-ag04 before this happened? If you don't know try and keep a running log from now on, just in case.
Is it possible a neighbour (or even yourself) had switched on something electrical at that time?

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

You may have missed it but I've taken to including the gateway I'm on with the stats Smiley I was on connected to gateway ptw-ag04. This is located in Telehouse West.
Spoken to both immediate neighbours and neither have switched anything on around that time.
Checked 17070 and no unusual noise/crackling
One thing I have established, it's not the filter or the cable, as I just swapped out the router only. So narrowing down to the TG582n with new firmware or an outside influence Smiley

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

Sorry I missed the Gateway as it was on the previous page, smack wrist  Embarrassed
There's a full release of 10.2.2.B now there, instead of the demo version, it shouldn't be any different but give it a try tomorrow just to be sure. If that still gives the same issues then try the 10.2.5.2. but read the thread about it first.
I'm sort of thinking it's unlikely to be firmware if you had the issue before with 8.4.4.J.

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

I've been thinking of changing the firmware, but to clarify, I was on 8.4.4.J during the first weekend of disconnections which I still believe to be BT doing something in the exchange/cab. This latest bout of errors and low speeds was only after I upgraded to 10.2.2.B firmware and started using DSLstats to find out what was going on. I'm tempted first to downgrade 8.4.4.J again and see what that does since it seemed to be ok then.

Yes, that's fine, whichever you think, because at the end of the day checking that is the only way to be absolutely certain.

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

Downgraded the firmware to 8.4.4.J at 22:00hrs yesterday and everything seemed fine till about 17:00 today. I've included the stats and graphs. You'll notice the SNRM drops slightly after 17:00 and after a few hiccups settles down. The CRC error graph shows a few spikes before settling back down to zero while the FEC error graph goes mental. Now I might be way out here but reading these forums I get the impression that BT or the DLM controls the SNR so I'm wondering if there's a problem on their side which is throwing up errors on my line ?

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

Just had an absolutely crazy idea..... as mentioned previously the FEC errors went mental starting about 17:00hrs and I've just noticed them returm to zero around 23:00 hrs. Now I've searched my home and asked neighbours and have been unable to find anything that activates during that time frame.
Here's the crazy idea......... I've only recently moved from BT to PN. While I was with BT they used to throttle the bandwidth between 18:00hrs and Midnight. At the moment the UK is using BST( British Summer Time) and as such midnight(GMT) is actually 23:00 hrs. So the time frame 17:00 - 23:00hrs fits BT's throttling time of 18:00 - Midnight.
Crazy I know but possible ?

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

Any throttling would have been done much "further up" from the exchange, with no impact on ADSL stats, FEC or CRC error counts. Likewise, which plusnet gateway you connect to has no impact on ADSL line stats. The ADSL line stats an indicative of the conditions on your line, from your ADSL modem/router to the equipment in your telephone exchange.

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

Thanks ejs, but at the moment I'm grabbing at straws to explain what is going on. Now I'm using DSLstats to monitor things it has become apparent that something has "activating" between 17:00hrs and 23:00hrs. Since 23:00hrs last night my graphs have been fairly constant. SNRM has been level, FEC and CRC graphs have been at zero apart from a few isolated spikes .... all until 17:00hrs tonight when something happened again. SNRM level dropped and FEC errors have gone through the roof. CRC errors have remained at zero but with a few large spikes. I intend to post graphs after 23:00hrs tonight to illustrate whats happening over the 6 hour period.
Whatever is happening can be as mild as causing my download speed to drop to as violent as making my dsl disconnect almost every 15 minutes Sad but only in that 6 hour period. I live in a terrace street, so have neighbours both sides, across the street and behind me....... so if it is a local thing it is going to be almost impossible to find without special equipment Sad
