Re: Transfer to 21C Network

Yes townman, you are correct, I didn't loose sync just the PPP session. These are the average error rates since 23:20Hrs last night. I've included the latest SNRM snapshot. There is a slight dip around 09:20 hrs this morning. Not sure what all this means.

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

Thought I'd try another router reboot. Disconnected through the router gui @ 12:00hrs, left for a few minutes then powered off the router. Powered the router back up @ 12:30 Hrs and these are the new stats...... everything looks good and back to normal....... no idea what's going on Sad    Restarted DSLstats, will monitor and see what happens

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

Router reboot solved nothing. Did a 17070 phone line quiet test and no crackling/unusual noise.
You are currently connected to gateway ptn-ag01.
This is located in Telehouse North.

Some changes in DSLstats graphs but no idea what they mean Sad
Seems weekends don't like me, 2nd weekend with problems now.
I'm thinking of changing the router for my home hub 2 and all the cables and filter next, unless someone can suggest something else Smiley

Router changed for Home Hub 2, cable and filter changed for new ones PN supplied. Unfortunately neither Routerstats or DSLstats can telnet into the hub so no graphs Sad

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

Gtowen,
Watch out with all of these changes and disconnects - your SNRM has risen (9dB to 12dB) and consequently your synch is falling (15086 to 12320).  Looks like the DSLAM thinks there are issues on your line; if this continues, your SNRM might move to 15dB with an even lower synch rate.  I suggest that you make no more changes for at least 24 hours.  After that you might try a graceful drop of PPP through the router user interface followed a minute or so later b powering down the router.  Some recommend waiting an hour before powering up again.  This should stop the DSLAM thinking your line is playing up and get you resynch'd at a better SNRM / synch speed.
HTH,
Kevin

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

Probably too late townman  Sad
@Gtowen
Well you have clearly found that there could be a problem with some of the kit that you have swapped out, but unfortunately as I've said "could be".
It would seem that all the disconnecting and reconnecting, probably along with those high errors earlier has made the exchange DLM push up your target noise margin, it looks as though it may be 12dB and it will be this that's resulted in the now slower speed and may be masking any problem still present.
To avoid the possibility of this happening in future and right now to avoid the possibility of DLM Banding your speed as well I suggest that you use the following Disconnect method at all times -
Log in to the Modem/Router, in the Internet box, click Disconnect to drop the PPP Internet session (this is not the sync), wait about a minute and then power down the Modem/Router. After about another minute you can unplug it from the line.
Do whatever is needed, swap items, change settings or whatever, but stay offline for at least 10 minutes. When you re-connect and power up, Login to the Modem/Router and click Connect to establish a new PPP session.
Don't do this more than 5 times in an hour, then leave it for the rest of the day. This method is to help stop the Exchange DLM from thinking your sync loss was a dropped connection.
If you have a modem/router that doesn't have an interface for you to drop the PPP session, then pull the power plug and wait a minute or two before unplugging from the line.
PS. You can do a Disconnect & Connect (without a power down) to Gateway hop.
I'll have a look at some of the graphs and post some further comment in short while.
Edit: Ooops, apologies, I see you've used the Disconnect method, perhaps just too many in a short time frame with all the errors previously.

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

Ah, now I've just read your comment about the firmware. Yes that could be related. Also, has you TG582n got a USB port? Don't rush to change anything just yet - do you know what the original firmware was?

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

@townman  I understand your comments thank you but as Anotherone noticed I have been using the safe disconnect method...... but I only waited about 10 mins before powering up so possibly you are both correct.
@Anotherone The router is the version without the usb and the router was delivered with 8.4.4.J firmware.  I updated the software cos I was assured it was no longer in demo mode (see http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,115402.0.html)
I won't change anything else for the moment, as while things look better, still no big error numbers, I'm not sure whether it is this or the ongoing transfer to 21C question Smiley

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

Those current CRC errors for the uptime look fine, however that SNRM down is varying a lot it's 2.2dB lower than your 1719 post yesterday. Need to ask some more questions later in relation to this.
This transfer to 21CN email is undoubtedly related to your uncapped upstream order and has obviously clouded the picture - why Plusnet's system is generating such obscure emails instead of something more precise is anyone's guess and something Plusnet need to look into and resolve and until then warn customers that they will see this when placing uncap orders.
I think you may have hit the nail on the head with your previous remark about weekends not liking you. Looking at the Visual Radius graph from your previous thread, there was clearly something specific happening related to Friday and Saturday evenings. At other times looking at the posted stats, the error rate is Ok and at others it's horrendous.
The big question is what cause the previous Friday/Saturday evening and last Friday evening instability!
This certainly a confusing picture as I see you've had disconnection problems for some time having looked back through all your previous posts, so just a couple of questions to try and eliminate other things from the picture.
Am I right in assuming that your phone line transfer to Plusnet has completed and any phone line fault initially raised with BT Retail was closed by them as no fault found?
When did you first switch to the 10.2.2,B firmware (whether demo or not)?
Are you still plugged into the test socket?

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

@Anotherone First off thanks for your help in this matter.
Phone fault was supposedly fixed by BT on the 13th May, BTOR engineer stated a wire had come loose in the cab.
Transfer to PN was completed on the 20th May.
As to the firmware I'm not actually sure but looking through records of my speed tests and stats I think it was last Sunday, 2nd June. Having it confirmed that the firmware was ok to use on the 31th May and the nightmare of last weekends disconnects I swapped routers to try and isolate the problem. I'm sure I updated the firmware then before swapping back a day later.
Yes I am still plugged into the test socket, it was suggested previously that the faceplate might be at fault so I left things as is until I could purchase a filtered faceplate

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

But as I pointed out, the surrounding events made that assumption inconclusive. In fact I think it highly unlikely, but especially in light of more recent events, I'd say it was improbable.
Can't remember if I asked, do you have any fixed extension phone sockets and are they all dead whilst you are plugged into the test socket? If you need to check any such sockets use a filter with a phone to test.
Are you using any plug-in extension phone leads anywhere?

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

Yes I agree that there has been too much happening to be conclusive. While I'm a marine engineer and have some diagnostic abilities I don't know enough about the processes of the router and the internet. All I can do is swap out equipment to try and isolate the cause  Smiley
There are no extensions.. the master box is in the back bedroom. The router and corded phone are connected via filter direct to the master box. The router is then connected to powerline adaptor to give access to main pc in attic room and media center pc in living room. 2 laptops connect via wifi.

Re: Transfer to 21C Network

Are there any items that are electronic or have electronic power supplies that only get used or switched on rarely, and might have been used that Friday & Saturday evening and last Friday evening? In that you should include low voltage energy saving lighting and compact fluorescents. Also include motorised equipment that might have been running for those extended periods.
