Transfer to 21C Network/REIN Problem [RESOLVED]

An update report has been received for this account.
The broadband service is now being transferred to the 21C Network.
The transfer will complete by midnight on 08/06/2013.
Just seen that notice on my account, I thought I already was on the 21C Network lol. Anyway, what does it mean to my broadband service exactly ?

Hi Gerwyn,
You'll not need to do anything from your side of things. You will however see a speed increase to around 12.5Mb/s and will also have the option of having your upload uncapped with no additional charge.

ok thanks chris but apart from the recent disconnects I already get speeds of about 12.5 Mbps plus my upload has already been uncapped. I've only mentioned this as I thought I was already on the 21C Network. Part of the BTw speed test states "For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 4 Mbps-21 Mbps."

Just done a speed test and while everything seems ok, web pages opening ok, no disconnects etc, except my speed has dropped drastically since this morning. Sad  . If this is part of moving to the 21C Network I am seriously not impressed Sad

Have you checked the current Plusnet IP profile ("Current Line Speed")? It may need adjusting Roll_eyes

@x47c I agree,those errors only appeared sometime after 12:00hrs today, I did a spedd test then but didn't record the results cos everything seemed to be fine
My problem is I only noticed the service message about moving to 21C Network today and it is dated 2013-06-06 23:01:42 and supposed to be completed by the 8th (tomorrow)....... so is all this part of the move or have I got a fault somewhere ?

I'm confused by the timing as well.
You must have been transferred early.
Your are clearly on the 21CN network and on  ADSL2+ from the DSL type quoted.
So your sync spped is 14932.
Your BT IP setting is always sync *0.883 = 13184.
Your PLusnet IP setting/mis-called line speed  should follow the BT setting and should end up as per the BT one rounded down
so your should be 13.0 or 13.1
You won't achieve that as a real download but should get near to it - say 0.5Mbps less.
However on your line
The errors are so huge (particular important are the CRC's) that the exchange is spending so much time re-sending the corrupted data packets that your achieved throughput has simply collapsed - hence your appalling test at 4Mbps.
My best guess
You spoke of "disconnections" earlier............mmmmmmmmm sounds iffy
so I'd hazard that there is a fault on the line and probably always has been.
(Target SNR margin seems like it is  a 9 downstream - that higher than the standard 6 and that is higher than the best lines are allowed to run at which is 3)
Also suggesting maybe something is not as good as it could be.
An attenuation of 27 shows you are reasonably close to the exchange - say 1.75 Km.

@x47c  I've always thought I was on the 21C Network as my stats have always quoted the same DSL type, thats why I started this post. Last weekend I suffered multiple disconnects on friday and saturday evening, see the following thread http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,115391.0.html But after raising a ticket, PN finally did tests on Thursday and found no fault and now this happens Sad
Since saturday night the speeds have been fairly good and I've had very few disconnects till yesterday. This morning I disconnected the internet thru the router gui and then powered the router down for 10 mins just to see if this would make a change. I've had no disconnects so far since about 8:30 hrs this morning and my speeds were ok until lunchtime.

As you say - who knows what is going on.
I've just read the other thread you had - yes some dire disconnections there!
It's clear to me you have been on ADSL2+ and uncapped upload setting from the start
so what the latest message being 'transferred' is about is anyone's guess.............
12.53Mbps is indeed the max achievable download I'd expect from your line at that IP setting on plusnets side and on BT 's side.
so there was nothing wrong with it at the start of that series of measurements.
Your last post on the other thread still showed the errors a bit high for my liking
55000 HEC errors and worse still the Errored seconds of 123000.
As per my earlier post  above -  for your current stats show an even bigger error rate.
The 21CN equipment is better at maintaining sync even with a huge error rate than the old 20CN stuff - which would throw a fit.
I've had a thunderstorm pass overhead and was monitoring the line in depth precisely to see what would happen with "Routerstats" program and saw the errror rate increase to such a level from the storm that the internet basically stopped.  Once the storm had passed all reverted back to normal - still in sync as before.
If you have the ability to set it up AND IF your router unit will 'play' (some don't respond) you can try monitoring the line with either

RS takes a bit of setting up - particularly the telnet access to get the error graphs
or possibly these days better

You see, it may be only at certain times you are getting the problem
So as well a considering a line 'fault' it maybe that the line itself is not faulty but some local electronic equipment ( not necessarily in your house) is dumping out such a stream of Radio intereference when switched on that it is swamping your internet connection.
Monitoring the connection (real measured SNR margin principally) for sudden strange "events" can help to see whether this might be the case.

I have used routerstats once last week and it does work with the PN router I am using so will set up my laptop to monitor things. I dis notice that the graphs were basicly horizontal from start but things may have changed.
As to outside electrical interference, while I don't rule it out I would first like to know what PN have done since my stats seem to indicate I was already on 21C network.

It must be the errors
Look at the Error tab on Dslstats and then the CRC subtab and look at how they are incrementing - regularly or with sudden increases?
The FEC sub tab is not really important (Forward Error Correction) - it details the amount of errors on your line that are being corrected by the error checking routines and shows it is working properely as your line is clearly been set as interleaved by the exchange due to the error rate ( A decent line of your length would probably not be interleaved)
The CRC errors are the ones that are so bad and the packets so corrupted that any form of reconstruction by the router/modem from the checksums is impossible.
On your last stats....
Your line has been up 16 hours
You have accumulated 2 million CRC's during that time
Assuming they are coming continuously and not in some spurt all at once that is at a rate of 2000 per minute.
On your previous stats when the line had been up 9 hours the CRC accumulation rate works out as around 1200 per min.
For comparison on my good line I had no CRC's at all over the entire last 24 hours. (The interleaving was busy though correcting the minor errors!)
The bit loading looks generally OK to me with none of the characteristics signs of a nearby faulty switched mode power supplies or other similar nasties which give regularly spaced humps up the spectrum ( Faulty electronics are regular cause of errors on a line).
mmmmmmmm, I wonder what is causing the two reduced loading sections at the upper end Tone 375 and 425 areas).  Too broad for MW radio interference methinks which are much sharper dips around the particular frequency.
The fact that you can use and load up up to the top limit of tone 512 indicates the line general quality/lengthseems OK (I can only use up to tone 450)
I would have thought that that number of errors would show up as excessive ripple/jittering of the SNR trace.
I give up.
I think this one is over to Plusnet to investigate - the digital care team on this forum do not work weekends so unless one of them happens looks at the posts over the weekend by chance you'll have to bump it up on Monday
Anyone else with any ideas?

All quiet during the night, no dsl disconnects although the internet has disconnected @ 09:00hrs and 09:42 hrs this morning. Down speed has incresed slightly while upload has disappeared Sad

Would one be correct in implying you mean you lost the PPP session without loosing synch?  That might imply a different (additional) issue.
The graph you published does not appear to show any SNRM variation at 09:00, what about the later time?
