Three UK & relay.plus.net

Hi,
I hope this is posted in the correct forum, apologies if it is not.
I am on the three mobile network and would like to use ny handset to view my plus.net email account.  I can sucessfully download the inbox but for the life of me can not send any email.  A year or so I tired with an N95 to no joy and thought it must be a problem with the handset, now I have a HTC Hero and I still can not send mail.
The user name and password have been supplied, and no encryption has been selected.
Any thoughts for you guys?
Cheers
Minimos

Re: Three UK & relay.plus.net

For some bizarre reason, Three block all outbound smtp apart from their own smtp server (smtp-mbb.three.co.uk) .  As Plusnet Relays only respond on port 25, there is unfortunately no workaround.
You can either use the Three smtp server, or subscribe to an external SMTP provider that uses nonstandard ports.
Using the Three smtp server will still allow you to send email *from* your Plusnet account.

Re: Three UK & relay.plus.net

Thanks Barry, that solved the problem.
I'm surprised Three are adopting this practice as it could open them up as a spam relay if somene uses a PAYG mobile broadband account.  Oh well that's there problem if it does happen.
Works a treat
