Im having a bit strange issue that I hope someone might help with.
To cut a long story short I was running the 582n on the latest firmware and get a speedtest result of anything between 17 to 19 mbps.
I was thought I might improve things by buying a TP link WD 8980 adsl router modem ..... speeds drop to 10 to 12 mbps
Ive also got a BT Homehub 5 modem router .... speeds still at 10 to 12 mbps.
All the above are using the same cables and are located in the same position.
Why is the £6 582n out performing £70> equipment please? Is there some hidden settings on the 582n?
Thanks in advance
Phil.

There is probably a logical explanation.

I am on ethernet when running the test … so for clarification I am not testing the speed of my wifi network here guys …. I want feeback for testng the adsl line please.
I have used the same rj11 cable and filter for both routers and testing. I have also swapped rj11 cables and filters and run more tests. The results were as close as not to even bother mentioning.
I have also changed the DSL modulation type on the tplink from auto to adsl2+, auto etc with no speed test result improvement.
So again my question is … how can a free technicolour 582n be beating an £80 TPlink router? Do the techni routers have some hidden settings that I’m missing? Can anyone make a suggestion that I need to change some sort of setting somewhere please? I’d really like to use my tplink as it has dual band and better management and wifi house coverage but I cant take the line speed decrease. It’s doing my head in. Have no idea why the line attenuation and snr values are differant when all that has changed in testing are the routers.
Help please?

I'll check the link you fired up and check.
It's driving me mad that I bought a better router than the 582 and it gives me a worst connection
Should I request one of those line resets? When I started the dsl contract back in October we had builders in and the power to the router was up and down ... more often down. But I'm guessing that wont have any effect on my wd8980.
Just out of interest, do my snr and attenuation stack up ok? Is generally my line speeds ok? I can see the exchange from my house, its about 200mtrs away FYI
Thanks for the input ... especially on a Saturday night
Phil.

You should ask for your upstream to be uncapped though

Re the qos and bandwidth control: Nope. Non was implemented from day one and the router has been hard reset so many time I've lost count. Generally I'll change a setting or number there of ... then after a good few swapping back and forth I'll reset to factory.

Can I suggest you check the broadband ATM settingss on the W8989 ?
PPPoA uses encapsulation type VCmux, with MTU of 1500.
PPPoE should also work but requires encapsulation type LLC, with MTU of 1492.
Do you witness the same poor speed test results with the TPlink when using the BT wholesale performance tester?

I'm running the BTwholesale tests now adhering to the instructions for the test on the web page.. Will post shortly. My speed seems to have now dropped to 6mb on the techni 582n as we speak. I'll post both sets of results in 10 mins or so.
Thx
P
