I bought the TP-LINK to replace my Plusnet Thomson 585v7, expecting to improve my wireless coverage. I have managed to configure the wireless network without a problem but I have issues with the internet connection which seems to load webpages very slowly - sometimes so slow that they time out with a message like 'cannot contact remote server' etc. In contrast the Thomson loads pages normally. Is there some parameter or feature of the TP-LINK which I'm overlooking in the setup? As far as I can see, it seems to be configured identically to the 585.

I had that problem this morning - using a TP-Link TD8816 - but it seems to have cleared since lunch-time. However, I noticed it was selective, in that sites (in the US) would have bursts of errors and then run fine while others continued normally. I put it down to "internet problems" and everything seems to be fine at this time. I have had the same IP since 6th August, so I assume the gateway is unchanged.

Hi donne,
I can see you've started raising a fault but there's still one or two questions left on the faults wizard that need answering before it'll raise a ticket through to our faults team.
Just to check though, there have been a fair few drops on your line over the past week or so:

Do any of those periods coincide with a particular router being plugged in? If so, it may well be down to a fault with that router.

Hi Matt
Thanks for the reply and the dropped connection chart for my line. I recall that I started to experiment with the TP-LINK router on Saturday 10/8/13 in the afternoon and Sunday 11/8/13. I would imagine that most of the dropouts on those days were caused by swapping between the two modems. The dropouts in the previous three days,7/8/13, 8/8/13 and 9/8/13, certainly happened when I was using the 585. In fact, I find that the DSL performance of the TP-LINK is so bad that it is unusable and that I can only work online with the 585, as now - on the other hand, the wireless performance of the TP-LINK seems excellent.
As you noted, I did start down the broadband troubleshooter route and got as far as changing the microfilter (which made no difference). Do you think the TP-LINK is faulty, in which case I would want to send it back, or could its poor DSL performance be caused by an issue with my line?

Just to bring this to a conclusion, I have had extensive correspondence with TP-LINk support who have been very responsive but have failed to provide an answer to my problem. They confirmed that I had the modem correctly configured but the DSL connection still remained very slow and unusable compared to my 585v7. On their advice I returned it to the vendor as faulty. So I'm still looking for a modem with good 802.11n wireless router performance. I would consider the current Plusnet offering but it has received plenty of adverse comments in this forum - and my experience of a previous modem from Plusnet, the 585, is that wireless performance is not great.
